What schools in CO will take my DSN (Denver school of nursing) credits?!?!!?1

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi there - my name is Ashley and I've got one hell of a problem. I have been in nursing school for a year and a half, and was just wrapping up my 5th quarter. I was to graduate in September 2014 and now am not. My school terminated me for not passing my OB class by 1%. I did appeal to the scholastic board AND dean and they both decided it was a done deal. Now I am trying to figure out a way to finish school because I have a $50k bill with DSN that I will have to pay back after 6 months being out of school. Luckily I was able to find a full time job but thats about all I've got going for me. My question - Does anyone know of any schools that will take my credits? I was told by one of my teachers that MOST SCHOOLS PROBABLY WONT take them. I am going to be sending my transcripts out to all the CO schools but thought Id try here first just in case someone else had been in my shoes before. Thank you for your time.

I am writing because you deserve some sort of response to your post. I cannot give you any firm information but it may be true that you will not be able to transfer those credits. Schools set up their programs to be specific to their standards and may not be recognized by other schools. You would think that an OB class there would be similar to an OB class else where but in truth it is not. Sorry, I wish I had better news for you.

Have you tried to reapply to the program and take the class you failed again? Many programs do let people reapply because not all students are successful the first time. I know nothing of DSN but the costs so far seem really high for what I believe to be a ADN program. I wont beat you up because you must be in turmoil right now.

I am sorry you are going through this, you will get to the other side even if it isn't the way you originally imaged or planned.

Wow, what a pickle. Based on cursory search results, DSN is ACEN accredited and has a decent NCLEX pass rate for both ADN & BSN programs. Accredited schools must have some basic academic processes in place, including an appeal process. Your student handbook should have information about this. In my experience, most schools have a mechanism that allows students to re-take classes on a space-available basis (not displacing any students in good standing). Hopefully, this will be the case for you.

Wishing you good MOJO for your negotiation.

Hey Ashley! I'm not sure about other schools but I know for sure that Platt College doesn't. I also know that no one will take Platt's nursing credits even though we are accredited too (DSN only offered to take my general ed classes..I called and talked to everyone when I was having a moment of anger at Platt). I am so sorry for the situation you are in. If there is a grievance process, you may be able to go through that way- usually it is made up of a student and faculty committee. If that is the only reason they arent letting you redo it, then I would fight the hell out of that. Good luck to you!!!

Hi Ashley! I know this happened to you awhile ago but the same thing happened to me. I was just wondering if you ever found a school that took your credits. Thanks!
