TWU Spring 2014 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Hey everyone. I just wanted to start a thread for all of those hoping to get into TWU starting Spring 2014. My name is Kia and I have already sent in my application and completed my TEAS V exam. I'll be in the Denton campus patho class this fall (trying to wait patiently for an acceptance letter-GOD willing).

So I just got my shots done today. I went to Personal Lab on Harwin. They are a company under Quest labs, they do give discount for students. Both MMR and Varicella they charge $85. But for MMR we need both titer and shots. So that's $85+$45+$45 I believe. Their office hour is Monday-Friday 8:30 to 4:30 lunch 1 to 2. The total cost for me today is around $300. Hep B & C is not even included. Soooo much money T_T"

couldnt find the test online can you please provide the link to it? also the varicella titer is also $85 or $45?

And as for that signature of a healthcare provider, ill probably go to a public clinic and get them to sign it as i go in for my tdap, tb skin, and flu shot.

I got tdap tb and flu shot all at personal lab. Varicella titer was $85 and the shots is $45 each. MMR titer is also $85 and shots $45 each. So that's cheaper compares to the online deal. I just thought it would be easier to get all of them done at one provider. If you go to a family practice they might charge you some copay.

thaovu, I was just looking at the link you gave us from the previous post. Varicella is a good deal, but you could save some on the MMR at personal lab

I plan on getting the MMR at personal lab but i couldnt find it for some reason. Going to go to a public clinic to get tdap, tb skin, and flu. then head out to personal lab to get the MMR titer and finally swing by anylab for the varicella.

BTW do you have the address to the personal lab???

Receive or update CPR Certification for Health Care Providers by Monday, January 13th, 2014(the first day of classes). One of the student groups at the Dallas campus usually organizes CPR classes for new or updating certifications the week before classes begin. Information about the class should be available at Orientation; however, space is limited so you may need to find other means of getting certified. Classes are usually offered through the American Heart Association or through independent providers such as CPR Training & More (www.cprtrainingandmore.com)

Does anybody know what the requirement above is about? what is CPR Certification for Health Care Providers? Do we have to take class to be certified? It's kinda confusing:confused:

You have to be certified (aka take the class and pass a test) in CPR. You will need to take an American Heart Association - Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) class. You take the class, pass, and get certified for two years.

If you are Houston area and need the class - I know they will be offering classes on campus in Dec (week after orientation) and/or Jan (right before orientation). They usually do sign ups during the December orientation.

If you are in Dallas (or anywhere that isn't Houston) - I have no idea.

But no matter the location, you don't have to take a class at TWU. You can take the class at any AHA Training site, just make sure you are taking BLS for HCP (if you "instructor" doesn't know what that is - run away).

For those accepted, how did you hear? From an email or in the mail? Thank you!

They e-mailed us around 10/17 and I received a letter a week later.

Does anyone know if we need both Vaccine and titers for MMR? On the immunization form says we need Vaccine AND Titer. My physician said it is unnecessary since I am already immune to MMR. Thanks!

Okay thanks! I've been accepted to UTMB and i'm on the wait list for UTHSC. Just wondering why I haven't heard from TWU yet!

The titers are to prove you have immunity. It's for our clinicals, the hospitals require them now. I have both variecilla dises, but my titers came back with low immunity.
