Hey all. I'm an LVN in Texas. I already have a non-nursing BS degree as well.

The threads I'm finding on the subject have a lot of outdated information (IE, programs that existed in 2013 but don't exist now).

So I'd like to ask the question for the benefit of myself and anyone else interested in the subject:

What do you know about available LVN-RN (online) programs that will result in a Texas RN license? Things you've read? Where you're applying currently. Where you recently went (only if the program still exists!), what your experiences are/were there, and so on.

Thoughts, comments, ideas?

Lamar used to offer an online LVN-to-RN program, but not anymore.

The only online programs include Excelsior College (LVN-to-ASN) and Indiana State University (LVN-to-BSN). You will be eligible for licensure in Texas after completing either of these distance-based programs.

So far I've found a couple-few more that look promising. I'd seen the Lamar post in a previous thread, which is part of why I started this thread (since half the programs listed in the other thread no longer exist). Once I get responses from the other ones I found (sent emails tonight), I'll let the readers know the schools' responses. I've read about both Excelsior and ISU in forums - mixed reviews. Did you do a bridge, or traditional program?

I completed a land-based bridge program in Oklahoma. I commuted to school in Oklahoma during the week while living in Texas and working as an LVN on weekends.

Once I get responses from the other ones I found (sent emails tonight), I'll let the readers know the schools' responses.
I should mention that entities such as Rue, the College Network, and Distance Learning Systems are not online LVN-to-RN programs.

I hadn't heard about Rue, but will make sure to avoid it like CN and DLS, both of which no good reviews exist of online other than the ones they posted themselves :)

I'm in Texas and doing Excelsior. My reasons were: 1) I moved here from out of State and even though I had a 4.0 GPA I was wait listed. 2) I have all my prerequisites done for BSN and I refuse to retake classes that might expire in the next year. 3) I applied at 4 schools here in the Dallas area and they were beyond rude. 4) I was accepted at WCU but I'm not spending 45k on a BSN degree. 5) I am ready to get this done. I have completed all of the exams in 4 months I'm taking the FCCA portion now. I'll have my degree within a year. then I'm moving on to my BSN.

Hey Nibbles: I'm considering online programs because of concerns about items 1-2. I fortunately have a program that will pay for school, so cost isn't so much of an issue (though I'm not sure if they'll pay for Excelsior - just started looking at "alternative routes"). I had good experiences talking with TCC, TWU, TCU, and UT-Arlington nursing programs. Not so much with DCCD programs, where I got much snarky rudeness. All exams in 4 months: Questions - Any hidden costs? Were you working full time as well or studying full time? How much time commitment? Any hints on preparing? What's FCCA?

I'm new to these boards, not sure if there's some way to email or message me but if there is send me a message. I have a tip for you about a local program that you may be interested in based on your BSN pre-reqs being done, for your education after you get your ADN that you probably aren't aware of but is very appealing. Super-run-on-sentence!

Am interested in online LVN -RN programs in Texas... I have another degree also but wanting to get my RN soon... Currently going to UTA

I am also an LVN trying to do the RN thing and I'm discovering that trying to further one's education is exhausting! I also have a non-nursing degree and have explored second degree BSN programs that want me to retake the most random core courses. Right now I think I am going to pursue Excelsior and see how that goes. EEK!!!!
