OHSU BSN Fall 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi! I recently applied to the 2018-2019 BSN program at OHSU, specifically the Monmouth campus. I keep looking to see if anyone has started a thread for this upcoming year and haven't found one. I'd love to connect with other applicants and keep each other updated on our processes.

No I didn't... I should have though. I left the number somewhere on this thread if you'd like to call. You are selected to do the mock interview.. but heard it has nothing to do whether you will get a real interview or not. I had a mock interview at Monmouth campus!

I read on another forum that the Ashland campus will be sending out invitations sometime during this coming week! @kittycat48

***Never mind I went back through and read that someone said next week!

Has anyone heard when Portland campus will email about interviews?

Called about the Monmouth campus and was told in the next week or 2 interviews will go out.

Wow, week or two?! They really won't be giving much notice will they? Well thanks for checking, I'll stop holding my breath and just be patient then.

How did your mock interview go?

I got an interview at OHSU La Grande!!!!!!!!!!!

That's awesome! Congratulations!!! Did the email go out today?

Hi all! I also applied to the Monmouth campus for 2018. I am terribly nervous. According to OHSU Nursing Admissions, they are only sending out about 65 interview invitations: approximately twice as much as the cohort that will be accepted. I keep reminding myself that statistically, odds are NOT in my favor so if I don't get in first round, I'll be a part of the majority. I had a decent GPA: 3.71. And a 4.0 Science GPA. And I have 8 years of experience as a medical assistant. But unfortunately, I am taking a prereq course still. When I called in September to ask whether or not I should apply, the woman I spoke to was really encouraging and said that absolutely, even if I'm wrapping up a couple prereqs, I should apply. We'll see if it was worth it or not.

Good luck to everyone!

That's definitely how I am looking at it as well! But it would be nice to get in! I have a 3.83 and two years experience with medical assistant. I actually applied to OHSU last year while I was finishing up my last anatomy sequence, and I didn't get it in. But I got an email with my rejection letter saying I could call and make a phone appt to see how I can improve my application for next year, and she said that the main reason I wasn't a competitive applicant was because I didn't have a pre req finished before winter term. But hopefully that has changed!

Well fingers crossed! I think that having the prerequisites done gives you the upper hand if they're comparing two applications, but work history, good gpa etc is fantastic as well.

I can't believe we are so close to finding out if we get interviews

I applied to the Monmouth campus twice, and was accepted the second time. The first time I applied I still had some minor prerequisites in progress, nutrition and a writing course if I remember correctly, and was not invited for an interview. The following year, in order to be more competitive, I began taking classes at WOU and took a chemistry class. Both of these things counted towards "extra consideration" on my second application.

So I guess my suggestion to anyone who is not invited to interview would be to look at your application and find ways to make it more competitive. If you can take courses at a host school, do it. If you don't have healthcare experience, get some. Take a chemistry course if you haven't already.
