MGH absn spring 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi Everyone,

I figured since every other cohort has started message boards about the application process it might be helpful to start one here as well! Has anyone applied to MGH for the January 2017 start In the accelerated nursing program? I've heard a lot of great things about the program and work with 5 nurses who have come from this program as well.

I figured we could all share our experiences and qualifications here.. Good luck to all! I'm so anxious, September can't come soon enough...

Hey! I applied to.. Do you know exactly when we will hear back?

The past threads have said 8-10 weeks from the deadline. I would assume somewhere between September 8-10, the waiting game is killing me!

Yeah I read 8-10 on their website but was secretly hoping it was sooner than that haha

Hi everyone!

I also applied for the spring 2017 start date! I'm super nervous/excited! From the other posts that I have read we should be hearing sometime in the beginning of September.

September seems so far away! I checked out some other schools but really decided MGH IHP will be the perfect fit for me at this time. I heard from a few graduates that the programs are intense. It'll be worth it though cos we would be getting excellent training. I'm so looking forward to nursing school! I pray I get in.

Best of luck everyone!

HI,

I have also applied. Not sure if I can't wait, September seems so far away!

Do you know if they do interviews as a part of the admissions process?

no interviews for MGH, which is kind of a bummer...

I'm so nervous waiting for the letters to come. I've been working as a nursing assistant for the past 4 years at Boston Children's Hospital. I started right after undergrad. My GPA is 3.53 for the prereqs but only 2.979 for undergrad which is what I'm most worried about. I do feel like I had 3 strong recommendations from a professor, my current nurse manager, and a nurse I worked with previously. You never really know with these programs though... fingers crossed!

Hey, all.

im currently enrolled at the MGH IHP, just finishing up my first semester. I entered in the summer of 2016 (may). When I applied in the fall, the application deadline was November 2nd. It was a Monday. We got our admissions decisions on January 15th, a Friday . Monday January 11th marked 10 weeks since the application deadline. I've never heard of applicants receiving admissions decisions before the 10-week mark.that Friday when we received decisions , at 4:45, I got an email letting me know that my admission decision would be available at 5 pm. At 5, when I logged onto the application, there was a link on the bottom of the page letting me know that the decision was available. I merely clicked that, and received the decision.

I'm really enjoying the program. please feel free to let me know if you have any questions! I was in your place pretty recently, so I definitely understand how some of you are undoubtedly feeling

good luck to you all!

Also, just in case some of you wanted to know about my cohort. It's around 100, give or take. I know that two kids are gone--one kid will be starting in the spring because he hadn't completed a pre-req. it's okay to have an outstanding pre-req at the time of application, but all pre-reqs must be completed (with proof via a transcript) by the start of the program. I was taking human growth and development at the time, and didn't finish until right before Christmas (the application deadline was November 2nd). I sent them a grade report once I got the grade. If you have an outstanding pre-req when you apply, they do email you a few weeks later asking for the grade. I gave them my transcript when I went for orientation, a week before classes started. No problem.

For the first four weeks, you have what is called front loading. You have your main class, the nursing process class (aka med-surg) Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday morning 9-11:50 those first four weeks. Also, during those four weeks, I had skills lab in Tuesday after the lecture, and then nothing on Wednesday. After front loading, then you only have the class Monday 9-11:50. Tuesday's, I have my med-surg clinical. Wednesday I have skills lab. Some people had skills lab on Tuesday and then med-surg clinical on Wednesday. Everyone has their psych clinical on Thursday. Everyone.

For med-surg, you're either at Brigham or MGH. For psych, it varies. Brigham doesn't have a psych center. Mgh does, so some people are there. Others are Newton Wellesley, Cambridge, McLean, other hospitals. Again, med-surg is either at Brigham or MGH.

you also take psych (biobehavioral). It's a hybrid class. Mainly online, with some class meetings here and there (when we do meet, it's always on a Monday and after med-surg). Then you have your psych clinical every Thursday . Then there's the health assessment course which is every Friday, either morning or afternoon. And then, Patho, which is completely online. There are on-site meetings, but they're more review sessions than anything. I know that's a lot, but hopefully this'll give you guys an idea of your first semester
