Loyola Chicago ABSN Fall 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi guys,

I recently just got accepted to Loyolas' Chicagos ABSN program. The on campus (not hybrid option). I saw a few threads about former cohorts for this program, but none for fall 2018. I was just wondering if anyone else has been accepted and what they think of the program. I'd be moving from New Jersey.

Has one visited the campus yet? Any other thoughts, etc

Hey everyone! I was waitlisted Fall 2018 and decided to move my application to the in-person Spring 2019 program! I don't mind waiting and working a bit longer

Hi guys, can someone in the hybrid program please highlight on the schedule, is it evening/weekends?

@Denajinurse2be I'm not a current student, but I am considering the hybrid program so I asked a similar question. My enrollment advisor said the times can vary from days to evenings, but this semester the hybrid students have simulation labs from 5-9pm twice a week. They tell you prior to the start of each semester what times in the in person components occur.

Hi. I am in the current cohort of the hybrid program. The program is new and so we do not know yet what our clinical schedule will be. This semester we go to campus for lab one evening per week (Tuesday or Thursday), and then for our exams, which are typically during the day on Wednesdays. We will start clinicals this summer and have been told that they can be any shift, any day, anywhere. The school is attempting to develop all new clinical sites for the hybrid program. I imagine as the program grows things will change a bit. Overall, I have been really pleased with the program and the level of support from Loyola. That said, all courses are online, so this program requires a great deal of independence, good study skills and time management. They recommend that you do not work, as it is a full time program, however many students do work some hours and/or balance family responsibilities. Good luck to everyone attending in the fall!

I had originally been waitlisted for the fall 2018 onsite cohort and was going to wait it out for a spot, but today I received an email stating they aren't offering anymore spots at all. I'm assuming everyone has paid their deposit to secure their spot so they are unable to extend admission to anyone else. I sent an email inquiring about moving my application to the hybrid cohort, but am a bit worried since they didn't mention that as an option. I'm going to call in the morning because I've been considering the hybrid program for weeks and was going to switch tomorrow, prior to receiving their email.

@econtoRN when did you receive that email? I never got it.

@jackietran I received it yesterday afternoon around 2:30pm. It was similar to the email I had received last month when my application was first wait listed, but it says the ABSN program was in high demand and they are no longer reviewing or admitting students in the face to face program for fall 2018. It says they are still considering applications for spring 2019 and asked me to let them know my 3/1/18 if I'd like to have my application considered for spring 2019. They said if I don't respond by 3/1 then my application will be withdrawn. It didn't mention the hybrid program at all, but I think that's because on the original form I marked I was only interested in the face to face. I'm calling once they open this morning to discuss moving my application to the hybrid program.

@econtoRN Thank you for that. I hope you can get into the Fall hybrid program! My advisor is pretty quick to answer so hopefully you get an answer from them soon.

I'm about to give up my seat for the fall hybrid...going with another program in the city. Hope someone here lands the spot!

@jackietran the assistant director of enrollment emailed me back early this morning before I even had the chance to call. Like I suspected they just didn't mention the hybrid program because I had previously stated I wasn't interested. They switched my application over and said I should hear from them in a few days.

Hello @ ABSN newbie ! I had few questions regarding the hybrid program. I am new to this site and for some reason it is not letting me private message you. Do you think you can possibly message me? Thank you so much!

Hi Parknursing,

I just tried to send you a message. Not sure if it worked, but I am happy to answer your questions if I can. Feel free to write me, or post them.

Good Luck!!
