JU, UNF, UF, UCF, and USF ABSN Applicants for 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I know I am a little bit early to be posting about ABSN programs beginning in 2017, but I am almost done with my prerequisites and am getting excited to start applying to programs!! I am interested in applying to Jacksonville University, University of North Florida, University of South Florida, University of Central Florida, and University of Florida. Is there anyone else out there who is interested in applying to any of these programs? I would also love to hear information or opinions about the programs from anyone who currently attends or has graduated from any of these programs!

Where are you currently taking your pre reqs at? I am also about to finish my pre reqs and start applying for schools. As of now UNF is at the top of my list.

I'm from out of state, so I've done most of my pre-reqs at a community college in Ohio and one in West Virginia where I'm currently living. Since I'm from out of state, my top choice is....any school that accepts me and allows me to move to Florida! But so far I have mostly been looking at JU and UNF.

Hi there!

Would it be too late if I were to take my pre-reqs in August 2016?

That depends--which prereqs do you still have to take?

I still need to take AP II, Microbiology, and Nutrition (for UF) which I am planning to take at Santa Fe during their Fall semester.

For UCF: only required to take 7 out of 8 required so I will have an extra semester to take one more course.

UF's deadline is Dec 15, so you would probably be ok. Do you know if they have rolling admissions or if they don't even look at apps until the deadline? It might be harder if they're rolling admissions, but otherwise you should be fine I think.

Does anyone know how financial aid works? I know we only receive Stanford loans but will this cover the whole program?

Hello,

I know I'm a bit late to respond to your question, but the answer is no that it is not too late. UF does not require that you have completed all of your prerequisites by the end of the spring semester before starting the program in the summer. So, you can actually take prereqs in the spring as well, but your acceptance would be conditional on satisfactory completion of the courses.

I am hoping to get into the ASN program at Santa Fe for spring 2017 and I am applying to the UF ABSN program as my other option. If I do not get accepted to start the spring ASN program, then I will take nutrition in spring 2017 for the summer 2017 UF ABSN.

Hello armymusic2013,

The UF ABSN deadline for summer 2017 is Dec. 1. Remember that it is a two-fold application process (Nursing CAS and UF app). I am fairly certain that they do not do rolling acceptance. I work at, and have two degrees from UF and I don't know of any programs that do rolling admission.

Hi Analgesic,

If accepted to the program, they suggest that you go see a financial adviser before accepting the offer. If you have not already done so, you should complete the online FAFSA. I believe that there is a way to indicate if you will be unemployed during the program because that will impact your financial aid award. I believe that the amount you are offered in student loans per semester is primarily affected by current student loan balance (loans taken for previous degrees), independent (offered more money) vs. dependent student, and the cost of the program. It will likely be tough to make ends meet, but I am sure it's possible, especially since this program is aimed at people who have likely started a career and are now changing paths.

I hope this info helps.

I am applying to Summer 2017 at UCF and UF... and if those don't work out, Spring 2017 at USF. I just sent in all the remaining documentation for UCF general application this weekend. I am getting kind of nervous. I am a UF alum, but my bachelors GPA isn't outrageously stellar (3.4). My masters is 4.0 and my pre-reqs are going to be pretty close to that... but I'm still stressed. I have to take the TEAS still, but I took the GRE around 8 years ago and did well so I'm wondering if they will accept those scores as supplement. I wonder when they send acceptance letters.
