Georgetown ABSN Fall 2011

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Any applicants to the Georgetown ABSN program for Fall 2011 out there? I have been reading old threads from last year and for applicants to Spring 2011, but it would be nice to have a place for Fall 2011 applicants to talk.

From what I read in past threads, the application to the WHC program is sent out any day now and we hear about whether or not we are being interviewed at the end of February.

So who's out there?

Hi there! Congrats to those who git accepted. I just received my acceptance letter this afternoon! Yay! Not sure if ill attend til word about the scholarship, but its still exciting. :):)

I got in too.. but Im hearing it costs 72,000??????? WOW.... Any comments on the price? or the number of people who get the scholarship?

Just wondering, is there anybody out there who still hasn't gotten a response yet? Not sure how this whole process works really.

Hi bendn,

I have a friend who also applied, and as of yesterday afternoon (when I got my response), she hadn't heard anything either. Hope that helps!

It does, thanks! Wasn't sure whether or not I should send an email or contact their office.

Does anyone know if there will be an accepted students' day any time soon (c2011, I know you said you asked about this)? Or if they are receptive to accepted students visiting the campus? I have scoured the website for as much as I can, but nothing beats visiting, talking to faculty, and getting their "pitch."

Hopkins knocked my socks off at their accepted students day and my deposit there is due May 1. So I am hoping to learn more about Georgetown and have the same opportunity to fall in love with them too. It's going to be a very tough decision, especially when I factor in the potential scholarship, which we probably won't hear about before May 1.

I am going to need a killer pro/con chart to figure this one out!

Hi LizLemon and others,

True to form, GT responded within 24 hours to my email about admitted students day and the scholarship interviews. Here is what they said:

"We will be sending out an email shortly with information on our admitted student events and WHC scholarship interviews. The admitted student events will take place in the afternoons of Friday, April 29th and Friday, May 6th. WHC will be conducting scholarship interviews on the mornings of Saturday, April 30th; Monday, May 2nd; and Saturday, May 7th. WHC will then release the scholarship decisions the week following the final interview session on the 7th."

I must say that Georgetown has a much better response time to emails than George Washington. I was accepted at George Washington, and have emailed and called with several questions since, but have heard nothing back. I even had to submit my $275 deposit to GW without any of my questions being answered. Not sure that response time can be used to measure program quality, but it's hard to not feel somewhat influenced by this type of thing.

Best,

Claire

Claire,

I've had the same fantastic experiences with Georgetown throughout this process! It has been pretty seamless.

I got the same information regarding the admitted students day! How many of you all are going to be able to attend? I know a lot of people aren't in the DC area.

I'm curious if anybody who got into Georgetown is not going to apply for the WHC scholarship. 3 years commitment is substantial and I can see why people moving from far away might be unsure about signing up for that! I'd love to hear what you all are thinking!

Best of luck to everybody!

M

Thanks for the information on the accepted students and WHC interviews, Claire! I'm waiting to hear from one more school before I decide on schools, but I'm really excited that I got into Georgetown!

To be honest, the WHC three year commitment is pretty intimidating, but I've heard lots of good things about the hospital. My father is a physician and he said that getting into a hospital program is one of the best things you can do as a student because you get guaranteed hands-on experience and will have a job immediately after graduation. But I can completely understand if there are students out there not wanting to commit to such a long program, especially if they don't live in the DC area.

Hopefully I will have the pleasure of meeting some of you in the next few weeks. Best of luck on the WHC essays! I don't know how much more waiting I can handle J

Despite the fact that the WHC scholarship would be a HUGE relief financially, I'm from Michigan and have never lived in D.C...so it's safe to say I'm a little nervous about signing myself up for such a big time commitment (assuming I even got the scholarship, which is a long shot..haha). I guess we'll just have to see...it plays a big role in where I possibly end up though, since the other programs I've been accepted to have MUCH lower tuition rates and costs of living- but they aren't quite as prestigious as Georgetown. Gahhh so many decisions...

can anyone help me find the official cost of the program on the gtown website? just curious of the 72,000 breakdown...
