FAU 2016 ABSN Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Applications are open for the accelerated track! The deadline is in less than a month.

I am currently working on my application. I created this thread to reach out to other applicants and potential future classmates. We could provide support and feedback to one another while we apply/wait for acceptance letters.

I have 4.0 GPA in the science courses. Other pre-reqs -- A's except for 2 B's and 1 B+

I took the TEAS twice. I ran out of time the first time and did not get the grade I expected. I was devastated. The second time I took it, I did well and scored in the 99th percentile.

What is your current situation? I confess I am pretty nervous.

Do you know if we have to include references in NursingCas??

Best of luck to all applicants!

Hi Nurse ForLife,

I too am pretty nervous!

By the looks of your TEAS score and GPA you should be fine! I, on the other hand, have a 4.0 in my Prerequisite courses thus far but bombed my TEAS. My adjusted score is 76%...Not good and I cannot retake it since the the deadline for scores to be submitted is 8/21. I'm also taking a few prerequisite courses in the Fall that I'm still missing..so, I'm also worried that might play against me.

I guess at this point all I can do is continue with my application and hope for the best.

As far as references, I do not believe you need to provide any. When I attended the information session I was advised that all we need to provide is our transcripts and TEAS scores. They are not going to look at anything else, letter of recommendation, references, etc.

If you're still unsure you could always give them a call or send an email.

Hey ! I'm applying to the program and is nervous as well. I took all my prerequisites back in the sophomore year of my undergraduate degree. My science GPA is decent (above a 3.0) but not stand out like you guys; However, I will remain hopeful. I'm planning on retaking the teas on 8/20 so its not too late @ashanti12

Hi @Asanti12,

Thank you! I am recording my work history even though I don't know whether or not it's necessary. I will email them.

If I were you, I would take the TEAS again regardless of the deadline. You studied the material recently and it is still fresh in your mind (if you need any tips let me know). I honestly think we all have a chance.. It is going to depend on who is applying this year. Are you applying to other programs?

Hi @me10,

Thanks for replying! The whole process is nerve-racking...Let me know if you need any tips on the TEAS. Keep calm and good luck!

@Nurse_ForLife & @me10,

I am unable to retake the test until 31 days after I have taken it..it's standard rule across the board. That's the only reason why I'm not retaking it before August 21st. It's really disappointing!

As far as other programs..the only other Spring option locally in South Florida is Barry but their list of prerequisite requirements is pretty extensive so not really sure about them. If I am unable to get into FAU for Spring I plan on applying to FIU's program. How about you?

Yeah, you're right about our chances being based on the pool of applicants..Do you know if traditional route students also apply for Spring? Either way I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

Also, I saw on the FAU site that it advises for you to include your Z number. Do you happen to know where that goes within the application?

Thanks!!

Hi, I understand @Asanti12 but I still suggest that you retake the TEAS (whenever you can) in order to increase your score in case you apply to other program.

The Z score is in the nursing cas > program materials > questions (the last box)

I have been focusing all my attention on FAU's program and ended up missing the FIU's deadline (July 15). I want to start studying asap so I'll apply to Broward College and Miami Dade just in case...

Thanks for the info regarding the application! And yes, I am definitely going to retake the test if I am unable to get into FAU's program. Does BC and Miami Dade offer accelerated programs? I thought theirs was just an Associate's program? Honestly, with your scores and GPA, I think you will be able to get in.

You're welcome @Asanri12 . At BC, first you get your AA (1 year and a half) then you can get your bachelor's in one year. Miami-Dade has an associate's accelerated program ( 1yr) then you can move on and get your bachelor's. I have my fingers crossed but I do not want to put all my eggs in one basket. Let's hope for the best though!

My TEAS scores is 80% decent not amazing , that's why I want to retake it. However, I don't want to waste my attempt rushing to take this test, but this migt be the best time while everything is fresh in my head .

Hi @me10,

I agree with you. Take it while it is fresh in your head. Also, they always give you a random version of the TEAS. Maybe you could luck out and get a version that fits your understanding of the material. I was told by the FAU staff that they will consider your highest TEAS score. You have nothing to lose!

Hi Everyone! First of all good luck to all of you! I submitted my completed CAS application yesterday, main part that worries me is that my transcripts get there on time. I had all of the registrars offices send them out on the 12th so hopefully they review them by the deadline.

Does anyone know anything about the level 2 federal background check?? I know it is listed as step 4 of the application process, but it doesn't have any instructions on where to get it done or how to submit it.

Is this something we will be asked to do if we are selected for an interview or does it have to be submitted by 9*7*15 with everything else? I called and did not receive a response yet and I cannot go to the informationals because I live in hawaii. Any idea about this future RNs? ;)
