CCBC Nursing applicants for Fall 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I do not think this post is in the right Category, but for the life of me I could not get the Student category to work, so I apologize in advance! I wanted to start a new thread for the 2016 Community College of Baltimore County Nursing Applicants.

I also am trying to get some opinions on my current prerequisite situation:

I am currently an MLT, and after a few years in the field, I decided that I should have done Registered Nursing instead of MLT. Long story short, the lab field is shrinking rapidly as technology advances rapidly, and full time jobs are becoming scarce. I have all of the prerequisites to apply to the Registered Nursing program except A&P 2 (Bio 221). I am currently signed up for it this fall. My concern is that I have a "C" in A&P 1 (Bio 220).

I think I have two choices:

1) I could "technically" repeat Bio 220 this fall, and apply to the registered nursing program after the grade posts in mid-December, because I could be enrolled in Bio 221 for spring 2016 before the deadline cutoff of January 31st.

2) I could just take Bio 221 and use the C for Bio 220 and hope that the advantage of having all of the courses complete at time of application outweighs the lower grade in Bio 220.

These two choices have been consuming my life for the past few weeks, and I can not get any advice or replies from the CCBC advisers (I think its because they are all on vacation). Does anyone have any advice on which option to choose? I am honestly not even sure if I can do option 1 because one area of CCBC's website says that bio 221 must be "in progress" or finished at the time of application, but then another area just says you must be "enrolled in Bio 221" or finished at time of application, which means something different. I just don't want to wait another year before applying.

Another question: Does anyone know if you get an advantage for applying earlier? Do they compare everyone after the deadline, or do they pick people based on academics, but also put some "unmentioned" weight into whether or not you apply early?

Thanks for any opinions or advice!

Hello transferstudent, welcome! and congrats on choosing nursing as your career. I am popping my head in to let you know I had a C in both a&p 1 and 2 and I got accepted : ) everyone told me I needed to "replace my C's" but the thought of taking A&P over frightened me. I did have all my classes completed before I applied though. To answer your other question I do not think they give you extra consideration if you apply early, they do give you extra consideration if you have all your courses completed though. In the CCBC catalog it tells you exactly what their process is for accepting applicants, good luck! : )

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Moved to the nurses schools, colleges and programs forum

Just wanted to chime in , ppl told me the same thing I had Cs in my sciences so I was afraid and retook two of them and have bs now . I also completed all my prereqs at ccbc and I'm done all the classes I applied for spring 2016 Catonsville but I'm afraid of my chances because my teas is super low :( , what do you think

What was your teas?, murse27? Anyone thinking of doing atb?

Hi I applied as well and got an email yesterday stating that I have been placed on the waitlist. Naturally I'm freaking out. I scored proficient on the Teas, have a 2.9 GPA and I've completed all the required classes. I hope that I get accepted but I am not sure what they are looking for at this point considering that I read another thread where someone with a 2.7 GPA was accepted. I even applied early to better my chances and that still does not seem to have helped. Anyone else make the waitlist?

I applied to the Atb program. I scored proficient on the TEAS

Hi I received my email yesterday I was not accepted . I think it's because of my teas I didn't get proficient when I took it but all my classes are done and I have a good gpa so I know it's because of teas . I am gonna apply at out of state schools and maybe take the teas again if I decide to apply to Ccbc in the spring for fall 2016 @perkypatti I hope u get in :)

Hey guys! I applied for Spring 2016 Essex campus and got an email yesterday that I was accepted! Good luck to everyone!

I'm sorry to hear you didn't get in. Thank you for the encouragement. Definitely take the teas again. The first time I took it I got basic and on my second try I got proficient. Good luck!

Congratulations! Thank you

Congrats ! And good luck to you . Do you mind sharing some of your stats just so I can kinda know what they're looking for with people they're accepting like gpa and teas score ? Thanks :)
