U.S.A. Oklahoma

hey i was just curious if anyone out there is planning on attending tulsa community college nursing program this spring. would be nice to talk to you about how your doing on the prerequisites and such. let me know! oh, my name is ourn because i plan to get my bachelors from there through the rn-bsn track, sounds like a good deal, anybody know about it?

Hi! :)

Just wanted to reply that I am starting my pre-reqs this fall at the Metro campus. I am really excited to get started. I'll be taking:

Intro to Psych -

Beginning Algebra -

Freshman Comp I -

Principles of Chem -

Anything you can tell me about these classes or Instructors?

So far, the Metro campus has left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm 32 years and have never taken a college course. So, I wasn't exactly sure how things worked but I have come to realize that my advisor screwed me by not signing me up for Biology for Majors in my first semester. Now I'm going to get started late on my Biology classes and it may cost me an extra semester.

I also have found the lady, answering the phones, in the Nursing Department extremely rude. It took two weeks to receive the program info packet which I received after I had to sign up for classes. So I didn't know which classes I needed when. She has cut me off not allowing me to ask the questions I needed to ask. Barked at me. She has even hung up on me mid sentence! :angryfire

I still have question I need answered but I'm afraid to call back :chuckle

I'm not letting this deter me, however. I'm just worried about getting to my classes and getting good grades.

Do you know if there is a waiting list for the nursing program?

Did you take the PCT course through TCC? I'm due to take it next semester.

Where do the students go for clinicals for this course?

I've also considered the RN-BSN track through OU. The only info I have on it is what is on the website.

So do you have any tips for me? Instructors to avoid...parking tips...calling the nursing department tips (LOL)...tips to help me get accepted into the program...etc?

BTW, I live in Bartlesville and will be commuting daily. UGH! How 'bout you?

Eventually, not this spring though, I will probably attend TCC. From what I understand, they have one of the highest pass rates on the NCLEX, higher than Langston and I believe TU - both of those BSN programs. They are an excellent school. I will start my prereqs when I get the money but I don't know how long that will take because I want to have it all upfront so I don't have the added stress of working while in NS. I don't think that I could handle that.

As far as the instructors you have listed, I don't know any of them. I received my associate's degree in Psych from TCC in '89, but none of those names sound familiar.

As far as I'm concerned, TCC has the best bang for the buck. The only school that surpasses it's NCLEX rates is OU, and from what I understand, it's very competitive to get in there.

Good luck to you OURN83. If you could, let us know what it's like. It would be really cool to have study buddies from allnurses, but I can't do school this spring unless $9K magically drops into my lap. It's not gonna happen.

I can always dream though! Best of luck to anyone going to TCC either this fall or spring!

They may have a bit of a wait list but I don't think it is too long. They start a new class each fall and spring semesters. My daughter was looking at it last year. They were not overtly friendly I agree, we went by in person instead of over the phone. The folks over at RSU are far more rude by a long shot. That would include all departments admissions on up. Dtr states she won't have anything further to do wtih them ever. I also ran into probs with them at RSU a couple of years ago when I enrolled in an online course and somehow "accidentally" got bumped out of it. Not so much as an I'm sorry.

thats a good website i always look at that before i choose an instructor.

i took intro to psy telecourse over the summer with p wilson and loved it.

i've taken beginning alg over the internet with hammintree, intermediate alg and college alg over the internet with shilling. comp 1 nights at metro with mack (easy a). i skipped principles of chemistry and went right into chem 1, a saturday class at metro. it did take up a lot of my time though and made it hard to find time for my other 2 classes, but i managed a b. so taking principles is a smart move! it will prepare you more than i was.

is it to late for you to drop one of the classes you are inrolled in and pick up the intro to biology course, or can you not find one that is opened now? i think they give you 2 weeks after the classes have started to switch don't they?

as far as that &*()^% answering the phones i'd be straight forward with her butt and tell her you don't appreciate being hung up on and she needs to answer your questions. (because you know a lot of those girls working at tcc are just students doing work study) don't take any crap! thats just rude!!! my goodness. i'd be furious.

parking at tcc... well i'm not sure you have to get a permit or not, i've gotten away with it all this time. most of the time you cant find a good one either! i've always had a to walk a ways no matter which lot.

i don't know if there is a waiting list, i'm applying for spring '06 as soon as a i finish the cna course through ttc, so no i didn't take the pct course at tcc because this cna course at ttc was only a month long and they will accept it.

i think the clinicals are through st. john because it is a teaching hospital and that is where my class at ttc are going next week.

i am also going to do the rn-bsn track through ou. i don't know a whole lot about it, sorry. oh, and i live in west tulsa.

ouch! $9000? is that what it costs a semester for nursing at tcc? does that include all expenses?

ouch! $9000? is that what it costs a semester for nursing at tcc? does that include all expenses?

nah, closer to $7000. i just want to have a little extra in case of any surprises, and i want to get a really good pda before i start. the one that i've been looking at costs $500 and has 4gb of memory. that would probably be enough for a nursing student. :) actually, the guy at circuit city says that this is the one that most nursing and medical students buy because of the capacity to do so many things.

i do know that tuition has soared at langston. they went from $8200 to over $9500 in a year's time. and last time i checked, their pass rate on the nlcex was in the low 80's, i believe 83%. another ! i don't want to go to a school that has that low a pass rate on the nclex even if it's a bsn program.

good luck to everyone, whenever you are starting! :D

Hey there, I know this thread is very old but wondered how you all are doing now? I am 32 and looking into going to TCC to be an RN. I have no 'real' college experience and absolutely stink at algebra. I have a little business college experience, but that doesn't help me here. After talking to the people down there at TCC, I am more confused than ever what courses I need to take. The lady tells me to look in the course catalog for the prereqs, and then when I call back she tells me that the prereqs aren't enough to be accepted into the program because it's done on a point basis. So what the heck am I suppose to take to get in? Am I smart enough to go to college if I can't even make sense of what they are telling me? :o If I went to school full time, how long is it going to take before I have the pre-classes done so that I can even apply for the 2 year program for RN?

HELP!

Intro to biology for majors, principles of chemistry, human anatomy and human physiology (and these cannot be taken together), intro to psychology, developmental psychology, history 1483 or 1493, american federal government

I think that's it! You should really apply to TCC first then talk to an advisor because they deal with pre-nursing students all the time and will tell you the most effective way to get through the pre-reqs. If you can go full time you should be able to finish them in a year and then apply for the RN program. Keep a good GPA, 3.5 and up will get you in.

Good luck.

Hey guys! I had originally planned to go the TCC RN route but decided to do the LPN thing first because I only have an average GPA (didn't really care when I first went to college 10 years ago!) I already have an associates degree in liberal studies from there and will finish my degree in psychology there in May as well, so I have all of the gen ed stuff already and am steadily working away at the science classes so I can eventually do OU's LPN-BSN program. I took TTC's CNA program in September and really liked the teachers. I start TTC's LPN program in May and it will take about a year. OU requires LPN's to have 1 year of work experience before starting their bridge program, but the bridge only lasts about a year. So by the time I finish my LPN and work a year I should have all the science classes out of the way since I'm only doing 1 per semester.

Last fall I started Bio for Majors at SE (hated SE - it's all teenyboppers dressed like they're going to a club!) and Chem 1. Had to drop both because I ended up sick and decided this semester to drop back to Principles of Chem. It's much better! I'm hoping to take Chem 1 this summer if it fits with my schedule at TTC. This semester I have classes at West, NE, and Metro and like all of them. I had one prof in College Algebra- the prof was awesome! I took her 1 week algebra in the August intersession and am just finishing up her 5 Saturday statistics class. She makes sure everyone understands what they're doing, but it's also an easy A. I know 1 week sounds like it's too short, but it is sooo worth it, and it's a nice A to help out the GPA! TCC doesn't require Algebra or Statistics, but the BSN programs do. I agree with the ratemyprofessor.com website on most professor evaluations. I've found that the best teachers fill up within the first day though, so enroll online as soon as enrollment opens. I found it easier to take comp and history online. Dev psych and intro to psych can also be done online, but there will be lots of reading.

Good luck! Let's keep this tread going!

I found the staff at TCC incredibly UNHELPFUL. By the time I got done making 5 calls to them I was so discouraged and actually thinking I shouldn't even be a nurse if I can't understand what courses are required and how I am suppose to pay for them all...I know I qualify for some financial aid, but not a enough and unlike these young kids, I have had many years to screw up my credit...lol...

Hello all! I know this thread is old but thought I would reply anyway. I am in Level II nursing at TCC. So, any questions I would be glad to help!
