I am currently a patient care tech at St. Francis and I make 10.50/hr. Plus I work nights and weekends as I am in nursing school. I like St. Francis and I believe that everywhere has its ups and downs and you have to find a floor/area/job that you love and that your personality fits with that of the rest of the team. Anyway, they pay based on if you have been through a tech class or in nursing school, etc. Wish it was more but it's not. I made more as a medical assistant in a doc's office during a ton less but... Anyway, hope this helps.

Oh, and about that question of the women wanting to lose weight. In Level 1 the focus is all about "feelings". First you have to understand how the women feels about weight and food and find out if maybe she is an emotional eater or something. If you just treat the physical and not the mental you won't get anywhere. The underlying problem is in her way of thinking.

Ok, I am in the Level II at TCC. While I do have some gripes about some things I would prefer TCC over other schools. I want to pass my NCLEX and I want to know what I am doing. Yes, I am tired from doing care plans (plus, I have a husband, dog, 3 fish, 9 yr old, and a 2 year old, plus my husband works and goes to school full time as well). I am unable to do my care plans until after around 8pm because that is when my husband gets off of work and he can put the kids to bed at 830. Who said nursing school is suppose to be easy? These are peoples lives. Yes, lot of people have dropped but not everybody drops because of grades. Also, some people don't do as well a semester because of other things going on in their lives. I have talked with nurses at the hospital and they say that most of the best new grads come out of TCC. They know what they are doing. I do plan on going on to get my BSN and beyond. I do think that some of TCC's information is on a "higher" level than just an ADN. But I don't mind because I don't have to pay as much as others for the same information. The only difference between TCC and the 4 year degrees are not the nursing information so much but the prerequisites. If they throw in more prereqs than yest it would be a BSN. Anyway, I haven't shuffled around here. All I know is yes, I am working but butt off and I told my husband that when I get my degree and my license to practice and am going to frame them and put a banner around them that say "blood, sweat, and tears" because I have cried over care plans, sweated over tests and put blood into my work. But in the end I will know that I can give my patients the best care possible due to my education. Hey, I sound like one of the TCC commercials!:chuckle

Ok, this is my second semester of nursing school and I love it! Right now one of my assignments is teaching a class about foot care to diabetics. Not hard, right? Ok, well, the clients are those of the homeless shelter. Does anyone have any great websites or info to help? Any ideas?:)

Sorry, but I don't like that tone. These things that his daugter is experiencing is VERY normal. As a child did you tell everyone that you wanted to grow up and be a target for pee, poop, and vomit? I don't think so. I think that we all go into nursing because our love for people and if we could do it cleanly we would all be ecstatic. But since we can't we still love what we are doing because of the people, or do you?

I went to clinicals last week. I have the sweetest client ever. She has some short term memory loss. She walks in the morning (a great feat for her) but she can't remember. She desperately wants to remember. Any suggestions to help her?

ok, I am wondering if anyone has a great recommendation for a backpack. I am in level 1 nursing and there are so many big books. students in higher levels say that we will just add on to those. I am using a rolling crate right now but I can't use it when it rains. Any suggestions?

I appreciate any help that anyone can give me. I am suppose to write a general survey on assessment findings. On physical presence I am suppose to write on my clients "stated age vs. apparent age". How do I write that? For example, I want to write "client appears stated age of 26". The only problem is is that my instructors do not want me to use the word 'appears'. What do I say instead?

I love Survivor as well although I did not care much for the last season. But I am psyched about this one. I think Margaret will make it to the merge. At that point I think that she will be singled out. But I am hoping that she will make it all the way! Oh, how many repeat survivors are on there?
