OSU OKC Spring 2014

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

I wanted to start this thread for all of the OSU OKC Spring 2014 applicants. I turned in my application yesterday and I can not wait for letters to go out! I am new to allnurses (but not to OSU OKC) and was hoping to share some of my excitement and anticipation with some other OSU OKC Spring 2014 hopefuls!

Me too! I guess we're stuck with each other for the next 2 years. :)

Hey I can handle that! :)

I got my acceptance letter today!!!

accepted as well. congrats to everyone accepted.

I get my UCO letter in 2 weeks but I'm really considering OSU-OKC. Do you guys know any current OSU nursing students? And if so, how are they liking the program?

Hey all! Busting in on your convo here haha. I sometimes look at the nursing programs in the forums to give advice where I can because I know how crazy it seems and I wish someone would have said a little something to me before I started.

I'm currently at OSU-OKC in their nursing program and just wanted to let you know how I like it. I'm second semester and so far the program is great. You guys will be entering into a different curriculum than what I started with but there will be the same instructors which is by far the best thing about this program. I'm not for sure but I believe your class will still start with similar course description. They are now relying heavily on ATI in the curriculum. I think it is a wonderful program, the instructors really care a lot about the students and will help you so much.

My advice is to read everything they assign or if you can't at least skim the end part where it breaks it down,

go to practice lab a lot especially in first semester, the sim lab is amazing,

buy a different orange scrub top than the one in the bookstore because they are very unflattering and get the patches sewn on the other brand scrub top

get a good stethoscope (many of my classmates bought a Littman after buying one in the bookstore and being unable to hear BPs or heart sounds),

don't feel bad if some of the nurses aren't very nice in clinical (that's their problem) and don't sit at the desk FOLLOW THEM EVERYWHERE they like it - trust me, you will learn many things following them,

and learn how to manage your time very well, particularly if you have kids/family. Oh, and if you don't have to work, don't, or at least go part time.

Good luck to you all!

Wow! That's was actually a huge help for me! Most of the UCO students aren't too fond of their program. I really do think I will choose OSU OKC. My mom even thinks OSU OKC would be a good choice and she graduated from UCO's nursing program. I'm still going to give it time but I think I will be meeting all of you very soon. :)

I'm going to check out RN to BSN programs this week too.

So they will let you wear a different top not purchased from the store, that's nice to hear. Do the shoes have to be slip resistant or can I get some black or white Nikes? Sorry for all the questions.

Yes you can wear whatever shoes you want as long as they are predominantly black or white. The first semester instructors were sticklers for shoe color so beware lol. I prefer slip resistant though, since many times patient floors get messy. Also, the scrub top as long as its bright orange like the others than yes you can wear it.

I plan on doing SWOSU's RN-BSN program. Its totally online.

Great info RNStudentJ! I can't wait! We get a lot of students at Integris Canadian Valley from Redlands, Canadian Valley, Metro Tech etc. Our RN's are great and everyone seems to like students. I know I love when students are there it really helps me as a Tech also. The orange scrub tops at the bookstore have the OSU logo on the front and you have to have the Patch sewn on the arm, btw I think the fee is pretty cheap because I remember sewing my patch on my CNA scrubs and it was a HUGE pain. One thing I noticed that was a bummer about the scrubs, they do not have pockets on the scrub top (except a L breast pocket, who uses that?). They are pairing them with cargo scrub bottoms so if you elect to get your top elsewhere make sure that you get cargo bottoms or you will have no pockets. You can never have too many pockets. I am going to look into SWOSU's RN-BSN I had no idea they had one. I was planning on going to OU but I really enjoy the flexibility of online classes.

Yes! I hate the tops at the bookstore because of no front lower pockets and they are so baggy! Lol. But I think the lady at the bookstore will sew them on a different top as well, but not sure..
