Is anyone taking this course starting May 13. Has anyone heard anything about it.

Hi everyone. So I'm in the stats class and having frequent meltdowns over the information! I do not understand much of this and feel so overwhelmed! I got a 60 on the first assignment :( did much better on the second but now am working on the third and have come to a stopping point. Has anyone used the stats for dummies books or stats made easy? I just feel like I need extra help. I'm considering trying to find a tutor. Anyone have any advice? Please help, I'm so discouraged right now.

When I took it last summer, I had an excellent TA. I emailed her with my concerns and she responded really fast. She asked me to send her the work I had done and she looked it over and showed me the mistakes I made. If memory serves, the first couple of weeks were hard for me too. But the video's were a great help, and I practiced the problems over and over to be sure I got the same answer each time. You have to practice. Do you have a good calculator? I used my daughters scientific calculator and I think it made it easier ( once she showed me the functions).

I went to a few kids algebra web sites and reviewed some algebra that I had forgotten. There are some really good ones out there, that show you step by step and and give you the correct answers so you know if you are doing it right.

Don't get too discouraged. I got an A in the class, and I hadn't had a math class in over 30 years. And I am not a math nerd... I had to take remedial math to get into nursing school. So if I can do it , so can you.

I passed but would have really benefitted from a tutor. It would have decreased my frustration level. I personally did not like online stats and did not feel that my prof or TA taught the way I needed to be taught to learn. It wasn't their fault, it is just the drawback of online learning.

Khan academy videos are helpful. If you are like me, there is no substitute for someone standing over you stopping you when you make a mistake and guiding you in the right direction. Good luck. You can do this.

Thanks for the responses everyone :) luckily my significant other is math minded and has been helping me. I really hope I can pass this class because I do not want to have to take it again!!

Well, I have an update on the OU stats class...I had to withdrawal ! What finally did it was after spending from 11am to 2am on one assignment and still not "getting it." I don't consider myself a quitter, but I need more than 5 weeks to get through statistics. I've been doing some research on the best class for me, and I found a stats class specifically for nurses all online, as much time as you need through the University of Rochester. It's NSG 311. Has anyone taken this class? OU said I could take it and it would count as my stats class. The thing I like about it is it's specifically geared toward nurses, there are no proctored exams, just 15 modules that you take a quiz on at the end, and you have as long as you need. I really would like to hear if anyone has taken this and their success with it. Thanks!:specs:

lonnaRn, sorry you had to drop. I am taking a stats class right now through northwest iowa community college online. 8 weeks, not to bad, tuition about $450 for the 3 credit class and no proctored exams. University of Rochester's tuition is unbelievable! WOW! $1600 per credit hour? Am I seeing that right?

Woodsyny, The class I want to take through U of R is 1,095 for the entire class. I will check again though with them to make sure it's not what you are saying :nailbiting:. I will also check out the one you are taking. Thanks!

  • $1,050.00

  • $1,092.00

This doesn't say if it is per credit/hr or class. Still too much to pay for a class, especially if it I coming out of your own pocket

How was the stats class you took at Iowa Community? did the credits transfer easy to OU? I was thinking about taking it there instead of OU.

It was a great class and very doable. Professor was great and I got an "A" and that was taking it with two other classes. Glad I took it there! It is an 8 week class. No proctored tests. There was a DB every week, a quiz which you could take as many times as you wanted to get the grade you wanted, and 3 tests which I believe were 30 questions and you had 3 hours to do them

Woodsyny, what is the # for the math class at Iowa? I was looking at their online catalog and couldn't easily find it. There was no difficulty transferring this class to OU?

MAT-156 which is statistics and there was no problem transferring it in.
