Hello, I am really hoping someone can help me out. I am currently enrolled in a graduate level nurse informatics class and have a short assignment due that involves interviewing a nurse informatics specialist. Unfortunately, where I work, we do not have any nurses with the title, 'nurse informatics specialist.' We have a separate IT department, but none of the employees are nurses. So, the questions are as follows: 1. As a nurse informatics specialist, do you report to the nursing department, the IT department, or another department? 2.What do you see as the advantages/disadvantages or your current reporting relationship? Thank you everyone for your responses! Tasha, I like your suggestions of FNP to DNP in PMHNP. My only concern is the expense of going for a DNP. The Master's will already put me in debt . I think I will plan on the adult geriatric specialty and if I want to do mental health I can go back and get certified in that area as well. Thanks again!

Hello, I will be graduating from my BSN program in Winter 2014 and plan on applying to an MSN NP program. I'm debating between mental health NP vs. adult-geriatric NP. My question is, if I go for the mental health NP, and decide at some point I don't want to work in mental health, but let's say, Hospice instead, would I still be able to practice as an NP? In other words, does the MHNP only allow you to work in a mental health capacity? I currently work as a hospice nurse, but have an interest in mental health as well. Would the adult-geriatric NP allow me to practice within a wider scope? Any and all answers appreciated!! Thanks.

Woodsyny, The class I want to take through U of R is 1,095 for the entire class. I will check again though with them to make sure it's not what you are saying . I will also check out the one you are taking. Thanks!

Well, I have an update on the OU stats class...I had to withdrawal ! What finally did it was after spending from 11am to 2am on one assignment and still not "getting it." I don't consider myself a quitter, but I need more than 5 weeks to get through statistics. I've been doing some research on the best class for me, and I found a stats class specifically for nurses all online, as much time as you need through the University of Rochester. It's NSG 311. Has anyone taken this class? OU said I could take it and it would count as my stats class. The thing I like about it is it's specifically geared toward nurses, there are no proctored exams, just 15 modules that you take a quiz on at the end, and you have as long as you need. I really would like to hear if anyone has taken this and their success with it. Thanks!

Thanks for the responses everyone :) luckily my significant other is math minded and has been helping me. I really hope I can pass this class because I do not want to have to take it again!!

Hi everyone. So I'm in the stats class and having frequent meltdowns over the information! I do not understand much of this and feel so overwhelmed! I got a 60 on the first assignment did much better on the second but now am working on the third and have come to a stopping point. Has anyone used the stats for dummies books or stats made easy? I just feel like I need extra help. I'm considering trying to find a tutor. Anyone have any advice? Please help, I'm so discouraged right now.
