Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I applied a few months ago for the fall start date. I have emailed the school to get confirmation of them receiving my paperwork and they assured me that they have everything needed for enrollment. I have an account set up on my.ohio.edu. My question is this... does it take a long time to get accepted? I am starting to worry.

From what I have seen and heard, it is better to look at it as if you will hear within 1-2 months of your start date, rather than based on when you applied. Most people get their confirmation about 1-2 months before they plan on starting. Even though you applied so early, they will go through all the apps that are for start dates before yours.

Did you guys get the email? OU is planning on increasing the tuition to the maximum allowed. Apparently local students are planning a protest, I am wondering if this will affect us. This was what i was really scared about starting the program and then being stuck with a higher tuition i didn't plan for.

Soon after I started the program in Jan 2011, there was a price increase. I that point, I started doubling up on classes. I do not qualify for tuition reimbursement at my hospital, so I am paying out of pocket. Sucks that they are increasing the price, but seems like everyone is nowadays. Just thankful I'll be done w/it all next week!!

Did they say how high?

Ok, according to this article, it is only for in state undergraduates. So that wouldn't affect us. Last line of the article

I would be so happy if we don't have an increase. But with all the changes they are making it makes me wonder.

Yeah, even being safe with this one, there's not telling what will happen in the future.

I can't finish fast enough. I have 2 more nursing classes and 3 undergrad classes (stats, ethics and business comm).

Once I graduate I will have taken 19 classes in 18 months. I am tired of school.

I applied and sent all my transcripts in Feb. I received my acceptance email a few days ago. Now I am awaiting info on the next steps.

Hi, I'm new. Just taking my first NRS 451 course. Anyone staying up till 2am looking up reference papers?

I am looking to take Stats in the summer. Is it really hard? I'm not great in math. Is there much math in it?

any advice would be so helpful.

Wow, I didn't know OU had online RN to BSN classes. I'm still working on my RN, but I'm hoping this program will still be around in a couple of years! (I'm also hoping that I can get a discount on tuition since my father was a professor at OU for nearly 50 years!)
