Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

oooops I mean 15-20 hours

Thanks for the poll results. Pretty busy lives being led here.

I still have NOT heard the official word yet from OU. I am looking to start 2 January 2012...I am more than frustrated. Thank goodness this thread gave me plenty of warning about the lengthy wait to hear about official admission.

Hope everyone has a great holiday season and break from school!

I have a question. Anyone know how the school is about having to take like 4 week break in the middle of the program? I just found out today I am pregnant. We've been trying for 2 years, so this is a huge deal. But anyways, I'm due in August. I had a C-section last time. So not sure if I will need to again. But I'm hoping I will be able to get away with just a 4 week break from school. I will take probably 8 weeks from work though.

Just curious as well, I applied in October, to start for Spring. How long would you wait before contacting the school?

What if an emergency happens and I have to take a temporary break from the program?

We hope that the flexibility of the courseware will allow you to finish the course you are currently taking. If you cannot continue and you withdraw from the course, you can re-enter later in the sequence and take the course you dropped when it is re-offered. You must withdraw by the drop deadline posted under Important Dates to receive a 'W'. To receive a full refund for the course tuition you must withdraw before the course starts. If you cannot continue and you do not withdraw from the course you will be charged whether or not you attend class. Please note: You must withdraw from the course(s). The instructor is not allowed to do this for you.

I know there are quite a few of you out there who have signed up for the fashion and culutre class RFPD 110. the syllabus is available on the "Knowledge Center" page and it has all the info. for the class including the necessary book. Looks like there is a discussion board and assignment due each week as well as 2 proctored exams, readings and videos too!!! Looks intense....

Ok great, so it shouldn't be a problem. I will be able to plan ahead, as I will either have to be induced or have another CS, due to having to be on Lovenox for my pregnancy. Thanks!

I have learned not to look too far ahead....take one week at a time as to avoid panic. Somtimes it looks much worse than it really is! Can't wait to hear what the class is all about....you would think fashion could be fun!

Sounds interesting....But looking at the syllabus, it looks like a lot of work. Good luck!!

Okay...finally...it is official, I am now a student of nursing at Ohio University. Received my official acceptance email today! Only took 5 months. Yeah!!!
