PLEEZZEE................ tell me about statistics. Was it hard? It's got me freaked out. I'm taking it this summer. I am not good at Math.. never was. What kind of assignments did you have and how much time did you spend on homework?

I am awful at math or anything remotely related to the subject, ie. stats! Tell me, does OU require a pre-req math course for PSY 230 stats?

Stats are OU is hard but DOABLE if you don't fall behind on the assignments. Make sure you UNDERSTAND the assignments, b/c the test are 2hrs OPEN BOOK/OPEN NOTES. And they give A LOT of particle credit on the test. NONE on the homework. On the homework you can't show your work. You basically just submit the answer. So if the answer is wrong on the homework, you don't get any credit. But, if the answer is WRONG on the test, but you show your steps, you get particle credit.

I joined EVERY statistics forum known to man, and had my finance husband check over my assignments to make sure I at least did well on my homework.

My instructor gave us assess to the class/assignment about 5 days before class started and HIGHLY suggested that students get a jump start. So by the time class started, I was already on module 5.

Good Luck!!

Module 5 by the time class started! Wow! Did you understand what you were doing? How much math background does one need to get through this class? Are the tests multiple choice or what?

UGH....dreading this. I plan to get this stats over with by the end of the year. If it's offered in august I'm jumping on it. We'll have that 2 week break to prepare.

Did you do the 5 week class??? Didn't know there was a 10 week one.

mtsteelhorse, nobody mentioned a prereq to me so I don't think there is one....whew!

Question: how much "math" knowledge do you need to actually get through stats? I know, it's a pathetic question. But, we're all friends here and I need to ask. Go ahead and laugh...I know I'm not the only one here with 5th grade math skills, lol! :lol2:

I'm dreading stats as well. I am horrible at math, I dropped College Algebra when I attempted to take it years ago. I'll be holding off until winter or so to try and take it though. I don't think I can attempt stats with a newborn baby, lol.

I managed to pull a D in college algebra. When I went back to nursing school they accept some lame math course I took to get through college...not even algebra related. I like very simple algebra...key word: simple. Anyhow, to this day I don't have a transferable algebra grade. And looky here...I'm doing just fine! Until now that is!

Jeez I haven't done math since high school. Should we start a stats thread already?!

Stats at OU is 5wks. There are like 11 assignments. 2 due a week. So by the time class started I was 2.5wks ahead. The BIGGEST complaint about stats is you "really" can't ask for help. They will guide you towards a paid online site where a tutor can help. When posting questions about a problem, TA is VERY VAGUE and will DELETE any responses that give away the answers. They consider this cheating. Hence why i stated I joined EVERY stats forum known to man. Plus I believe this board will be VERY HELPFUL. This board wasn't as organized as it is now, so when taking stats, I would just start a STATS message board and ask questions.

DISCLAIMER….I have a BS in Biochemistry. I've had up to Calculus 4 and every chemistry class known to man. So I'm COMFORTABLE with math. STATS IS NOTHING LIKE I'VE EVER TAKEN BEFORE. I was CONFUSED from the jump. But I was OVERTHINKING stuff. Basically need someone to SIMPLIFY the problems for you and you'll be fine. JUST TAKE EXCELLENT notes.

The test is mostly problems and you showing your work on how you came up with the answer. You get credit for showing your work. I basically left 1.5 pages BLANK on the midterm (ran out of time), and still got a B. Knew I failed. After that, I just started to breathe easy. Don't stress too much about stats. Like all of the other classes, folks on here will help you!!!

:bluecry1: ................. all I have to say about that...............

I am with you michelemybell........... You guys taking it next? I'm not taking it till summer.

Make it a point to share details. lots of details. I'm gonna need all the help I can get.

I have not taken a math class for 23 years and I did fine. I watched all the videos that she posted and printed out all the extra materials. If you watch the videos and do the examples along with her it is a lot easier to do the homework assignments. 10 assignments worth 20 points each. Assignment 9&10 was combined. A midterm and final both 100 questions, 3 houred proctored exams. Midterm is assignment 1-5, final is 6-10. I had all my assignments and practice questions from her videos with me and used those to helpanswer the questions on the exams. They were multiple choice, T/F, and problems that you have to show your work. It was tough but if you stay ahead with your assignments and ask questions you will be ok. Our TA was very quick to respond to students questions. Sorry if i answered questions that have already been answered I didn't have time to go back and read through all the posts:)
