Community Health...who has taken or wil be taking?

Thought I would start a new thread on my next class coming up. I know Delta...you have already taken this class, and have commented elsewhere about some of the requirements.

Any words of wisdom you and others can share whould be appreciated.

This is one time consuming assignment. I've spent at least 10 hours and am still not through. My hats off to those of you who were able to get the data and finish up in just a couple of hours. Perhaps I'm just too anal. And to make matters worse, I'm still missing some data at the county level.

A question about the income data for those that have completed the assignment. Did you use personal or family income? Our instructions are silent on this. Also, what did you use for the income range? This is typically the largest number in your data set minus the smallest. So for US income, this would be a number in the billions of dollars since it would take a Warren Buffet or Bill Gates income (somewhere north of a billion $'s) minus the lowest US income (which would be under $2,500). And it looks like this will be yet another piece of information I can't get at the county level.

Hey I had to use household income a few times due to lack of data and I noted that. I did pm you but you mailbox is full.

I used the median income that was listed by the census bureau for county, state and nationally. The income range was a bit harder to find but the information was there - listed as 200,000 for county and state. then I used 200,000+ for national. Don't know if that is correct but I am more than tired of digging for information. I still haven't done the analysis or found anywhere that lists approved nursing diagnosis for the community level. The glaring issue for my county is cancer rates of all kinds. Then closely followed by cardiovascular disease. I am using cancer as my healthy people 2020 topic

May I just ask HOW in the heck one is supposed to find all these statistics on county level?? Maybe I am not displaying the kind of patience I should have but this is already giving me the biggest most frustrating headache I have ever had with these classes. I don't even know either how to begin writing the summary on what my county needs let alone finding/selecting an objective relevant to my county. I am going to fail this class:(

Inimica…You're focus may be too broad and you many need to narrow it down. For instance, my county per statics was considered to be affluent in comparison to other counties. Although diversity was high, there wasn't a lot of support. (1 food pantry, no health clinics for the vulnerable population.

My focus was on communicable diseases. Big plant in my town that brings in a global population. Also focused on the lack of community resources, based on the assumption that many residents didn't need it.

This class was a B#()&)# for me. But once you get the grasp of what your community needs, you will be fine. Don't get too bogged down w/the chart. For some you just have to settling for NR (not reported). And food for thought, with some many charts, the TA seriously has no time to review ALL these grinds too closely.

Thank you for the tips. I am just so tired of looking at statistics and it is just time consuming and not interesting at all. I am just too stressed because work has been crazy and I am also taking business communications and NRSE 416, so I might have overdone it a little lol

Yeah…I feel you…I doubled up when I took community. But can't imagine taking it with business also. Good luck to you on that….

4510 Professional Nursing Practice is a combo of 300 (transitions) and 335 (legal)

4520 Health Assessment and Promotion is a combo of 310 (assessment) and 325 (interventions)

4580 Leadership in Nursing is a combo of 445 (Strategic) and 416 (Management)

Community is 4540 and Diversity is 4570 - they aren't being combined

yes...you are right. I made a mistake. I am almost done and getting my classes mixed up.

I'm in 121. My TA said there are 56 sections! Stats too???? Good luck!

Im in section 123

Yes we can!! I need to stay positive lol It is hard these days. You are right 416 does not seem too bad. My problem was that I was supposed to be added to Prof P's class for my Bus Comp but got Prof F. instead and that is a handful. It kinda pushed me over the edge yesterday, so your kind words are appreciated!!
