Thought I would start a new thread on my next class coming up. I know Delta...you have already taken this class, and have commented elsewhere about some of the requirements.

Any words of wisdom you and others can share whould be appreciated.

MAJOR TIP for those w/picky TAs..When you do the windshield survey ACT LIKE YOU ARE WRITING A NARRATIVE. Don't just say you see a church on the corner. What does it look like (brick, stained glass windows, cross on top)? If you see people, DESCRIBE them in detail. I got dinged b/c I didn't state the COLOR of a turban a man I saw was wearing….WT$(*%W

Or act like you toured the country and the only thing to describe is green landscape and cows…LOL

Thanks!! I think I will need all the help I can get with this TA. This windshield survey is a #$%@* This is going to be a LOOOOOOOOONG 5 weeks!

No curve to that quiz - el bombo! Pulled down my grade - now I am going to have to work my butt off to get it back up:banghead:

I think I must have gotten your TA!!!! These are the lowest grades I have ever had!!! I guess you took it last year?? I only have two more classes after this one and I'm worried this community class might kill my GPA, if so I will not be happy!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Took it last summer..It's actually an interesting class. Learning A TON about my community. Just all the nit picking made me ready for the class to be over....

If I remember correctly, curves and study guides follow the first quiz….

I feel your pain…Been there!!!

I hear ya. The quiz grade is the only thing posted for my section and is also not curved. Gettting only 9 correct on a 10 question quiz means starting things off with a B . . . Can't wait to see what I get on the DB and the assignment.

Like I said, not diggin' this course.

Does anyone else feel they keep saying the same thing over and over and over again when filling out the windshield survey? I am learning some about my community but it is difficult when there is not much to work with. Hope it is ok to visit more than one town during the survey as this is a very rural area with limited resources. Gives me more content having to travel from one town to another to assess community resources as my hometown has none unless you count a grocery store, post office, and gas station. Will be glad to be done with this assignment!

I drove several areas.....something I do every week when I go shopping! :lol2: So I have a good idea of the area anyway.

I live in our county seat, so I am in the area of the county with all the resources. I too do a lot of driving doing grocery shopping and too and from work, so really all I have to do is start filling in the blanks. There are a couple of resources I have not seen in my driving, but I may look up and see if the even exist in my area.

Discussion board grade and assignment is finally posted. Saturday, I realized I didn't look at the rubric...oops. So, I knew I would be dinged at least 2 points for not listing any nursing interventions...which is exactly what I was dinged, so I got an 80 on the DB. The assignment surprised me, I actually got full points for that! Thank goodness because I only got 80 on the quiz too! So, the assignment grade brought me up to a B+, so there is still a possibility to get an A out of this class....

Anyone else still waiting for grades for week 1? I've been delaying my DB posting until they're posted so I can get a sense of what the TA is looking for. I wonder if we'd get cut the same slack if we were a day late with our assignment?

Grades were finally posted this morning and one thing is very apparent: Getting an A will be difficult.

Not sure if all the sections weight the elements in the course similarly, but for my section, the DB postings count for 18%, the assignments 45.5% and the five quizzes 36.5%. The quizzes aren't curved, so getting more than one answer wrong on any of the five could be disastrous. With the weighting, you will need to score close to 100% on every assignment and discussion board in order to the 95+ needed for an A.

Not really diggin' this class . . .
