LPN to RN Online---Which is best

U.S.A. Ohio

i am trying to decide which way to go. i have all prerequisites completed for a rn program. i was communicating with rue and college network who both use excelsior in ny for rn credits. i called excelsior directly and found out it is cheaper to go directly through them. college network told me i could be done in 3 months. excelsior said there is no way. does anyone know the truth? i would really appreciate your feedback. thanks!

How much experience do you have to have as a LPN before getting your RN online? How long are the clinicals and is it true that the clinicals are out of the state that you live in?

are you in Ohio? Where at in Ohio?

Have you looked at the University of Rio Grande online program? I am doing the campus based program and I like it alot.

I just started as an LPN. Excelsior has no clinicals, just an evaluation of skills at the end.

PERSONALLY i WOULD STAY AWAKE FROM EXCELSIOR AND RUE and COLLEGE NETWORK( WHAT A SAD WASTE OF MY TIME AND MONEY).

You will not finish your program with Rue in 3 months,,,,,,even if you have the prereq's done. You are paying money for your books on top of having to pay to take the exam.

EXCELSIOR-2.5 YEARS

COLLEGE NET WORK-You are actually doing excelsiors program but you dont find that out until you have signed up for that contract. I was able to slip out of most of my contract with CollegeNet due to a technicality but they still got alot of my money

Believe me you WILL WANT TO HAVE CLINICALS TO RELATE TO YOUR BOOK WORK INSTEAD OF AT THE END.

Also note that Excelsiors pass rate is actually 62%, not the 85%( which is low to begin with) they were boasting.I also couldnt get ahold of my advisor for 2 months when I started with excelsior. In the end they each got about $2000 from me and I decided that I needed to research better.

I will say that Rue is a knock off of excelsior though( and they are both bad)

I did the Univ of Rio Grande in Ohio. Check out their website. http://www.rio.edu

Best choice I ever made. I commuted once every other week for clinicals(12 hours), which were mainly in Chilicothe( 4 out of 5 semesters) with one in Galipolis for mental health(6 hours). If you have questions then please feel free to message me

I am so thankful that you took the time to educate me. I was going to apply to Excelsior on Friday. I want a good education, not just a piece of paper. Again, thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

your very welcome. Continue to shop around for a good school. It make time but you will find it. I know I did

I don't think you should knock on Excelsior just because you made the mistake of going through The College Network. I have heard many positive things about Excelsior as well. It has is drawbacks (ie. only being accepted in certain states, having the HARD 2.5 day clinical exam @ end), but I feel if you're self-motivated & willing to do the research..how bad can it really be? I would love to hear back from the OP. Let us know what you decided on. :)

There is a program in Cuyahoga Falls, OH at the National Institute of Technology, LPN to RN bridge program. All of the pre-reqs are included in the curriculum, the program is 15 months and all classes are taken in the same place. The cost, I think, is around $15,000-20,000.
