COLUMBUS OHIO RN's.......I need advice and any networking leads you can give me!

I just graduated two weeks ago with my BSN from Xavier University.....I re-located back to columbus bc I was extremely home sick and wanted to be closer to my family......

I am well aware that jobs in Cbus are kinda scarce right now. I started my search three months ago, and yet to have a call back for an interview. I'm scheduled to take my boards in two weeks. I know once i have my license it will be somewhat easier, however most hospitals in the area want experienced nurses.

If any columbus ohio nurses on here have any advice. I'm very open for feedback. and especially if your units are hiring and new grad friendly--->I would love to email my resume to you to forward through to your unit manager. Ive been getting the run around with most hospitals recently and desperate to start even getting a call back!

I am especially interested in nationwide childrens bc all of my outside clinical experience has been with infants and children. I did my capstone rotation/role transition at Shriners in Cincinnati btw-loved it........

enought babble-please please please experienced columbus ohio nurses-HELP!

Specializes in Cardiology and ER Nursing.

Cleveland isn't terrible for RN jobs now.

Specializes in Cardiac.

Have you tried applying to OSU Med Center? They hire the majority of their new grad RNs through the Internship/Residency Program. If you google the hospital, and click on Careers, you'll be able to gather all the info you need to apply. The Internship/Residency program has several tracks (Cardiac, Med Surg, Critical Care, Mother/Baby). On the application you'll be able to select which track you want to apply.

The Internship is held a few times a year. I believe one may begin in August.

Good luck!

Specializes in pediatric critical care.

Children's in Akron has a lot of positions on various floors if your willing to move, and you would still be close enough to Columbus to see your family.

Specializes in Neuro/ MS.

I will be graduating in 3 months and my clinical instructor told me to apply at Nationwides Childrens because they should be opening up the new hospital in a few months. They are suppose to hire a massive amount of RNs. So still apply there too. Good Luck on the NCLEX and on your job search

I am not a nurse (I am an STNA in a Respiratory Care program), but I do know that OSU will probably be hiring fast and furious in the next few years because of the ginormous new addition. It's not peds, though. I think part of it is a lot of additional critical care beds and oncology. Have you thought about Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster?

Thanks everyone for the replies.

**all heart Rn** I did apply back in the winter to the osu internship/residency program, however didnt get it! not one thing, word on the street-which im not exactly sure if true of not is their pretty interested in their own PCA's or graduates. So im not sure...i was actually pretty bummed when i found out.

NENE916-i talk to the recruiter every week from nationwide....hopefully she will be my ticket in unless i get another lead here soon. Im praying that nationwide when they gear up for the opening of this new building, they will be ready to hire some new grads-for now-jobs are extremely scarce.

lilbearzmom-i just decided this week to take my search a little outside the columbus metro area-mainly bc ive been getting discouraged so much lately. Im still pretty set on staying in the area for commuting reasons....but im not putting all my eggs in one basket anymore. I'm hoping something will come along soon!!!

Thanks for your input! always much appreciated :-)

Specializes in LTC, geriatric, renal.

Can anyone on this post tell me if the OSU Med Center hires ADN nurses? I couldn't find any information on their website. Qualifications just list being a graduate of an accredited RN program, but it doesnt say bachelor's or ADN. I am working on getting my bachelor's but was just wondering for the time being. Thanks in advance for your answers.

All Columbus hospitals hire ADN/BSN just as long as you are a RN. The trick is getting in the hospital. Keep applying. Good Luck.

I work at NCH...that is incorrect. They are hiring..but..only experienced RN in the floor they are hiring for...sorry. I can't even get an RN job there and I have worked there for several years!

OSU will only hire new grad nurses outside of their internship/residency program on very rare occasions and you must be a SNA/PCA at OSUMC already. For their internship/residency program, they prefer a BSN, but do not require it. So if you have an ADN, you best do something to make your application/resume stand out. I am a current ADN student who works as a PCA at OSUMC with high hopes of getting a RN job there when I graduate.

This is very correct. There are VERY limited positions available within the OSU internship-and keep in mind the Internship/residency program is the only way they will hire a new graduate RN. I know several nurses in the internship program right now- and if I'm not mistaken they all are graduates of the OSU-their big on keeping their nurses within their system.
