Would you assist in abortions? - page 15

I am just curious. Would you ever work in an abortion clinic? Would you give pills that would cause an abortion? Thanks... Read More

Yes, I hope God Does Have Mercy on my soul...if I was the patient, I would want a compassionate nurse to hold my hand and support me through an abortion. Imagine in no one was willing to hold you hand.....
I think everyone deserves a second chance in their life, and that is why I think the nurse's role is crucial. The nurse can counsel the patient, and give them some guidance and direction.....to stop it from happening again!
Does this not make sense? That is the only reason I would be willing to work in an abortion clinic. But I love my current job

We, ourselves, feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. --Mother Theresa
Excellent response to such an unwarranted remark. Your answer shows you show true caring and compassion toward your patients, not judgment.

I would never work in an abortion clinic or assist in an abortion. I think it is awful that women want to kill their babies when there are thousands of people out in the world who cannot have children of their own and who would love to raise them. Once the sperm fertilizes the egg you have a baby, so I would never want to kill one. I consider it murder and it breaks my heart that those babies will never have a chance to live because of their selfish mothers who can only think of themselves. Yes, people should be their to councle them if they do chioce to kill their child but i also believe people should be there to tell them that there are women who want their baby and that they are killing their child!!! I consider it so harsh that I would call it murder. It breaks my heart..

I consider it selfish when someone assumes when someone gets an abortion, that mother is ONLY thinking of herself. It's quite possible that the mother might be all of 10 or 11 years old and was raped, and might not even physically be able to carry a child. I REALLY wish people would take things liek this into consideration before stepping on the high horse and casting judgement against people they DON'T know and assuming about the situation they are in.

The role of the nurse in assisting with abortions is critical. Everyone here seems hung up on the actual procedure--but think about the big picture here!!! A lot of the patients are young, uneducated woman. While in recovery, it is the nurse's job to educate, educate, educate! There are a lot of birth control options that your patients don't know about! I was doing a rotation at the public aid clinic (which is big) and most of the patients I ran into during that rotation were poor, uneducated woman, who were very young (mostly under 20 years of age), and didn't speak English. About half had venereal diseases. Most all of them had been abandoned by their boyfriends and a family member was helping them deal with the aftermath.
A lot of them wanted abortion referrals.
I am pro-choice, but do not work in the ob/gyn field, but if I did, I would think the support and direction you would give that patient would be crucial.
I have never met a woman who WANTS this procedure done. I have met lots of woman who think it is the ONLY option for them at that time in their life. I have never met a woman who would want to go through an abortion again.
Hence the important role of the nurse.......

There for the Grace of God goes me. And I am Catholic.
Your remark about never meeting a woman who would want to go through an abortion again caught my eye . . . . I have. My own sister has had at least 5. She used abortion as birth control until finally talked into a tubal. Thank God. There ARE women who use abortion as a birth control method and THAT is certainly where patient teaching can come in. I just worry how much difference we can make in the small amount of time you have after an abortion to teach.

If there is a child who is unable to carry a baby, then the baby would die naturally on it's own. It is completly against my morals to kill a child no matter the circumstances!

Not to start anything, but I have to disagree...I already told on this thread of the little girl who lives near me, who was raped at the age of 10, and who is now pregnant...I believe she's about 5 months now...she's only a baby herself, and she'll be lucky to live through it...so which child has the right to live?

I don't claim to advocate for or against abortion but asking a ten year-old child to become a mother is, to me, quite ludicrous...just my opinion though, and you know what they say about opinions

I support a woman's right to choose, but I couldnt assist with abortions. We used to do some suction evacuations when women had miscarried in the ER and were bleeding badly, that was close enough for me.

Earthchild, as I have stated previously I am pro-life, but your situation is the only time that I think that I could agree with abortion. I feel so much for that girl, and what she may be going through. I have a daughter who will turn 10 in a few months, and if God forbid something like that happened to her, I think I would choose abortion for her (God forgive me). What a terrible situation for everyone involved!

    So sad.....

What terrifies me is that this doesn't seem to be isolated...I was reading on the OB/GYN board and they have a thread called 'Youngest Labor Patient'...it is really heartbreaking...Don't take this the wrong way but I'm kinda glad I can't have children myself...I can't imagine what I would do if something like this happened to my child...

    YES I would
We have a law here that you can only up to 3 months and after only if it will kill the mother if it continues.

NO.....I wouldn't but I want you to know that I am not against abortion but I am against the way an abortion takes place. There needs to be a more humane way to end a pregnancy than how they do it now.
The other day I got the newspaper and the headline was that "some people" thought that lethal injection for prisoners on death row was inhumane and needed to be changed to something where they wouldn't suffer so much....So a lethal injection is inhumane but violently sucking a baby to pieces by vacuum is humane....or better yet taking a knife and cutting it to pieces is???....I wonder what pain the baby experiences when its legs are cut off and it hadn't died yet. I think if you saw the movie Braveheart you may have a small example of what it feels like to still be alive and have your guts ripped out. As far as partial birth abortions go I can't imagine what kind of person you would have to be to partially deliver a baby then suck its brain out in order for its skull to collapse so it can be more easily delivered and be assured that it would not be delivered alive. I don't think I could witness this....I could possibly accept the concept of an overdose of morphine or something where the baby falls asleep and eventually stops breathing and doesn't experience pain.

It would be a person that does partial birth abortions.
