Do any of you still take security photos of newborns shortly after birth? We do, but I can't understand the reason for this as the pictures are taken with a 35mm camera, and the pictures aren't developed until long past the discharge date for mom and baby.

No. We do have a nice HALO security band system, though. If anyone attempts to take a baby off the floor with the security band still on, the elevators shut down and won't leave the floor, and alarm sounds, and a code is called throughout the hospital that alerts to child abduction, and EVERYBODY has to guard an exit, hallway, etc on every single hall and floor or exit/entrance into the hospital until the code is cleared.

Technically, this is how the system works. I don't think that the system REALLY does work, though.

We only take pics if our infant security system is down for some reason. We use a polaroid camera.

The hospitals in our chain that have L & D have dedicated elevators that only go to the baby floors, and no other elevators stop or have an opening on that floor.

We also have the alarm bracelets on the baby.

We also have drills, they announce Code Pink, whether the hospital has babies or not (could be a visitor's child they say), in which all elevators are stopped at the floor where they are, and all doors including stairways are guarded by staff until the child is found.

No security photos I don't think, just the usual pics for the mom.

Where I did my clinicals this spring, they use the security bracelets and also took a security picture with a 35 mm camera. The roll of film wasn't sent away to be developed until all 24 pictures had been taken (maybe 30 babies a month are born there). Half way through the rotation, one of the RN's on the floor bought a digital camera that has a printer with it and they started using that. They took 2 pictures...one they gave to the mother and the other went into the baby's file as a security measure. The unit never reimbursed her but patted her on the back for coming up with "such a great idea" :uhoh21:
