Lisa Miller's Advanced Fetal Monitoring--worth $300?

Anyone taken her two-day advanced fetal monitoring course? Was it worth it? I've heard people say how great she is, but I want some more insight. My job will pay for $125 of the fee and will pay me my hourly wage for eight hours as compensation. I'm a new grad who's already taken basic fetal monitoring, and advanced is the next step for me.

Any comments from those who've attended any of her seminars?

TIA

Don't know about Lisa Miller, but if you ever get the chance to take an advanced Fetal monitoring class taught by Rhonds Harwell, run don't walk to sign up for it. She is phenomenal! She was an L and D nurse for years, then went to California and was that state's Nurse of the Year (can't remember what year) she has or still does work woth Barry Schifferon(sp) who is a fetal monitoring guru. She is personable and is the knid of nurse who has those real life stories that we all have lived through and ties in her teaching with real experiences.

She is excellent indeed. But 300.00 is too steep for me.

I enjoyed it and felt that it was worth the money. But then I also used it as an excuse to go back east to visit friends. So I got double my money's worth. When I took it 2004) a lot of her teaching was about the NICHD terminology.

I saw Michelle Murray last year, but I can't remember it being 300.00 ....

but then again, work paid for it. Any chance your hospital will pay for you to attend?

I have taken quite a few Lisa Miller conferences and they are well worth it to me. One thing I will say....in the ones I have attended, the content doesn't change a whole lot...so I was hearing a lot of the same. She is a rabid proponent of NICHD and uses this time to teach that. I am hoping once NICHD gets into place she will move on. She is a wonderful speaker and a wealth of knowledge. She is a midwife and a lawyer and her law knowledge really gives you perspective on things.

Why not just go for one day and see what you think??

Funny and Michelle Murray is just as against NICHD as Lisa Miller is for it.

She has never had a darn good thing to say about it and is just as vocal. I found that rather interesting.

Yes I thought it was rather interesting. Sometimes I wonder if Michelle simply doesn't like things she thought up? Michelle started her conferences again, but nothing local for me. If I want to see her I need to travel...so I will have to figure what I can afford to do.

This may sound geeky but

as a doula/nursing student that's trying to make myself employable when i get done, I was thinking of taking a fetal monitoring class. I see the advanced ones advertised all over the place but not the beginning ones. Where are those given and Is there a way I could get into one before being hired??:saint:

I took a basic fetal monitoring class while still a student and I think it did help me to stand out as a new grad. I also did NRP and joined AWHONN as a student member. I did the fetal monitoring and NRP through hospitals my schoold was affiliated with. They let students take classes for free. Check with the education departments of the hospitals your school contracts with for clinicals and also local hospitals to see if they have discounted fees for students. Good Luck!

Dr. Michelle Murray teaches an evidence-based course that includes the NICHD terminology as well as the traditional (research-based) language. She also connects the terms with the physiology. Her course is an advanced 2 day course so anyone who has had the AWHONN Intermediate course will be well-prepared to attend her course. She is always well received and the enthusiasm of the crowd is awesome!

Are there any Michelle Murray courses coming up in CA? I was planning on taking Lisa Miller's course too...
