One of the nurses at work was sharing an experience yesterday that was quite funny. She said that many years ago she was in a room with a labor patient, last check 5 cm, and the pt said "oops!"
(I'm not kidding) and delivered her baby under the sheet. Mom and baby were fine. I thought you all might have some funny precip stories that you would like to share. Anyone?
Thanks!

we explained to a mennonite couple that the dr. wanted to use pitocin to augment her labour. "oh" the dad said "i know what that is . we use it on the cows". without missing a beat and totally straight faced, he continued "last one we used it for died." "ooh" the nurse gasped "we'll tell the dr. you have some reservations." "i don't have any problem w/ it." how about you eunice?" neither minded the pitocin. they were just making that observation.

I had a young, very tiny Vietnamese girl come in, looking totally unperturbed. She got undressed, and said, "Baby coming", squatted at the bedside and pushed out a 7 1/2 pounder without a tear! And it was her first. All this with a great big smile on her face.

Oh, yes, lemme see---- i had a primip who had an epidural and a VERY dense one at that. She could not even move her legs or bottom......
Welp, she became complete and i said, "ok Mia, let's try one push to see how you do at pushing!" (you know primips w/epidurals take FOREVER and a freakin day to push those babies out). The doctor was watching the baseball game in another room, so I knew all was ok. Well she grunted ONCE----just once.....
....and oops ----out slid a 8 lb baby like a banana shooting out of a peel. Slick as snot. Dr came in, laughing, (baseball on the brain) and said....."dang home run on the first swing!"
I warned her not to push in the future w/o a doctor present from now on. :-)

LPN...that is my worst nightmare!!!LOL!!!
I heard this story from my mentor while I was still in nursing school. At another hospital, many years ago, she worked with a doctor who always prescribed enemas for the laboring patient. Well, he had one he prescribed that to, but the patient didn't have a BM. The nurse reported it to the doctor that there was no BM, but the doctor preceded on. So, when it came time for patient to push with the doctor between her legs....guess who got squirted ALL over? The doctor did not order enemas after this, and always wore a face shield when delivering a baby.

OHHHHHHHH on the dr. getting squirted in the face. Very cute stories.

We had a medical student observe a delivery. To make a long story short she spent most of the delivery sitting in a chair with her head between her knees feeling like she was going to pass out. (this was an uncomplicated delivery). I felt bad for her but later we found this quite funny! I'm sure she went on to make a fine doctor but her first experience with labor and delivery was not a positive one! :-)

Not long ago I was helping a mom out of the shower, and had squatted down to help her pull up her disposable undies when RIP- my scrub pants ripped down the back. Pt's husband was hanging out in the room so I had him try to start gathering up their stuff as I timidly shuffled out of the room to retrieve a new pair of pants :imbar
Talk about embarassing!
Edited to add: Shoot! I just noticed you were asking for precip stories! Sorry, oh well it was embarassing:imbar

I thought this was funny, but the doctor didn't!!!!!
I was pushing a primip with a very dense epidural. It was during the night and the doctor generally takes about 15-20 min at night to get to the hospital. I pushed with her for about 45 min, until I could see a little of the head during a push. I called the doctor and let him know that we were ready for him to come in for delivery. The pt continued to push but didn't make much progress for about the next 15 or so min. Then, about 3 or 4 min before the doctor got there, she started throwing up-the rest was history!!! The best part was that another nurse that was working with me called the doctor on his cell phone right after it happened and asked him where he was, he said that he was walking in the door so she said "oh good, in that case, we'll save the placenta for you so you can earn you money!" He didn't find that funny either!
