I applied for a position in my hospitals L&D unit. I had applied earlier this year and they sounded like they really liked me but ended up giving the position to a person who had just finished midwifery school. OK, I understand. So a few weeks ago, I noticed another posting. This time, I called the nurse manager myself and remided her who I was (I didnt interview with her but the asst manager at the time). She seemed excited that I had applied and said we'd set up an interview as soon as she got my transfer papers. She called me last Friday and I have an interview either Monday or Tuesday of this coming week, probably Tuesday since I only work until 3pm that day. I have 3 years of critical care experience. I like that but I have always wanted L&D. So, keep your fingers crossed for me. Thanks!

Good luck, it's an experience that I am sure you will love...usually

I certainly wish you the best of luck----please let us know what happens ok?

I was a critical care nurse with a great itch for L&D. When a position finally opened up, I applied with the only experience in the area to my name was having a baby myself. I got the job and my career blossomed from there. A transition from critical care should be a HUGE plus for you. I felt it really helped me in the long run, especially where pathophysiology came in and with fetal heart monitoring. I think it also helped me when I took the impatient OB exam thru NCC (passed).

Good luck to you.

Glad that you decided to go for it again. Your critical care experience will be a tremendous asset!!! Keep us posted. :D

Good luck to you! I hope you get the job of your dreams. I understand the L&D itch. I've tried to scratch it as a doula and it doesn't seem to do the job. The next step to a cure is nursing school. Not sure when but w/i a few years.

Good luck and keep us posted!

i applied for l & d at several hospitals around my area, but they kept saying i needed experience. my question was how do i get experience if no one will give me the chance to learn. i have known since the age of 8 that i wanted to be an l & d nurse. finally, i applied to the hospital where all the small hospitals send their "sick" patients and i got the job. i have to drive about an hour to work, but i love my job. i am so happy that they gave me a chance to learn. i worked peds, gyn & med-surg for almost 4 years, finally i have my dream job. i hope to return to school to first obtain my bsn then i hope to one day return again to school to obtain my midwifery. it amazes me how life begins. how everything works the way that it does. any one with any tips or hints can feel free to post them to me.
