UK nurses overseas - maintaining NMC registration

OK, so the rules have changed, and CPD is no longer enough.

I'm wondering about how to achieve the "reflective discussion" part when there are no UK registered nurses where I work.

So, all expat Brits, please let me know how you plan to maintain your NMC registration. Is anyone agreeable to contacting me, with a view to maybe planning an email/Skype discussion that we both can document?

I'm in Chicago btw, so if there are any other UK nurses here, we can meet in Panera instead : )

Dear Everyone,

I am a UK registered nurse working in Florida, USA. I need a NMC nurse with PIN to complete the reflective practice portion of revalidation. If anyone can help I would be grateful and will obviously do the same for you or others.

My email: [email protected]

Thanks, Sam

I can help if you don't mind using WhatsApp. I'm in Chicago, and my day off is Friday!

These respective worldwide nursing bodies need to be finding ways of helping nurses, not resorting to ever-increasing bureaucracy and the like. They're full of jobs worths creating work for themselves. I've just completed an extensive revalidation process here in New Zealand, now I have to turn around this year and do it all again to maintain my NMC registration. And they have you by the you know whats because if you don't keep up your UK registration, it will cost you several thousand pounds in total to do a "retraining" course to regain NMC registration. Between Australia and New Zealand they have mutual recognition of nursing qualifications, why therefore can't the respective global nursing bodies spend their time more constructively by finding ways that allow nursing qualifications and registrations to be more globally accepted? Nurses shouldn't be discouraged, nor penalised, from traveling and broadening their experiences and skills.

I have no problem with different countries having different revalidation processes, but what really annoys me is that every single US state has a separate license, and if you are from overseas you have to do the whole international application every time, even when you have had licenses in other states for years.

My NMC revalidation is due next month, I am in Melbourne Australia. Please is there anyone who can help me out? I have done everything, I just need a nurse with NMC pin to go pass the page. I am willing to help another person. my email address is [email protected]

I'm really not sure what you mean by "pass the page'.

Have you read all the instructions?

You do not need someone with an NMC pin to sign off your forms. That would be your manager, who does not need to be NMC registered, but just needs to have a checkable professional qualification.

The NMC nurse role is to have the professional discussion with you. This will center on your 5 reflective accounts. They then provide a written summary of the discussion and sign the form.

Hi skylark,

I have read the instruction, the confirmer does not need to be NMC pin holder but you still need the NMC Pin to pass the question on 5 reflective account which will ask you to put their NMC pin and whether you have done it with NMC nurse or midwife. Without this, you cannot proceed to revalidation. Please correct me if i am still wrong. Thanks

Have you had a reflective discussion with a UK registered nurse, if so then they should be able to give you their PIN if not then you need to have that reflective discussion.

I am so grateful, I have been helped out by someone from this forum. Few people contacted me to help me. You guys are so amazing. Together we can all pass through this NMC hurdle.
