If you've been accepted to the "U" for either the Accelerated or basic BSN Fall 2009 program...introduce yourselves. I got into the ABSN & want to get know any future Canes. =)

I did!! I got in!! yes!!!

woooo hooo Congratulations!!

Yay - I found it! I'm getting pretty psyched about starting in August too - I got my American DataBank packet in the mail today and will set everything up to take care of that soon. How are you guys doing with all those details?

Thank you so much friend!

hello angels r gorgeous,

i'm glad you mentioned that. i paid my deposit as soon as i got my letter of acceptance, registered for orientation, and am also in the process of doing my data bank background check. i found out about all this on the nursing school web page. how did you hear about this? i spoke to one of the advisors and she said that i should be getting more info in the mail and she also said that they will register us for our classes. is that the case for you??? o i also finished my immunizations form and turned that in.

I was in the other thread for the people who started the ABSN yesterday (May 2009) and saw that I needed to go to the web page and get those things done. What I hate is that I did all the titers and immunizations, etc, with the last version of the paperwork, and then the day after I went in to take care of it, they had changed the paperwork, removing the option to prove immunity with a titer for some of the requirements. Pain in the butt...I'm still getting there - Now I also have to go back to do a PPD 3 months before the program starts - now would be too early, without that I'd be done.

In the other thread, it seems that most people think the school is not very administratively organized. We'll see how it goes the closer we get to starting. I've been to UM in an attempt to handle some administrative things, and they essentially told me - "forget it, leave us alone, because we're dealing with the May class right now - not you". LOL So, the other thread is pretty good for a heads up on some things.

I hear we should get paperwork telling us to pay another $500 to secure a clinical slot soon, and that we should get info about what supplies they require for clinical & classes (specific scrubs, shoes, laptop, etc...) We'll see what happens - what have you guys heared?

Hi,

I was in the summer program but asked to start in Aug instead.

You all may not have found out yet, but UM is SOOO disorganized. 3 days before tuition was due FinAid tells me I haven't turned in all of my documents. Now I had phoned and emailed them several times since Apr and this was never mentioned and it wasn't on myUM either. They give me the link and I fill it out, this is 2 days before tuition is due. The next day I see that UM will only accept half of the loan amount I was approved for. Suddenly I had all this extra money due in less than 24hrs. I called **** in a panic (she's a nursing director and really helpful, if you need anything call her) and asked her to put me in the Aug group because there was no way I could magically come up with the money. I know I'll have to deal with this again next summer but at least I'll have more than a few days notice to handle it.

You guys probably won't hear much from them until late July once schedules are made. Then they'll hit you with everything, make sure to check your UMail. Things may change for the fall group but I doubt it:

*You order your uniform from Gelscrubs.com, UM will email an order form with discounted prices ($12 bottoms, $14.50 tops). If you're vertically challenged like me order early enough so you can get the bottoms hemmed.

*The shoes have to be all white leather with a back e.g. no clogs.

*You need to buy a stethescope and pen light. They didn't give specifics, got my stethescope for $16, pen light was $3

*Books come to about $600.

*You'll have to take your laptop to some classes (sucks for me, mine a heavy widescreen, have to get a rolling backpack). Unless your laptop is 10 yrs old you probably won't have to worry about buying a new one to meet the required specs.

* I did my CPR online instead of the long boring class (been there, done that 3 times). After you pass the online course, you have to go somewhere to perform a skills test. http://onlineaha.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=info.bls
