Hey guys! sorry that i've been missing in action...my house got broken into and my comp & laptop were stolen haven't had a chance to log on. Mr.StudentNurse glad to see you started a FB page for us...I'll be joining ASAP. =) Has anyone heard on how the summer ABSN people are doing so far?
Sorry tatiny03, for the stolen laptop. My laptop was also stolen so I understand what you are going through. I am in the Fall 09 class.. just deferred from May 09.
See you!

I think the scholarship was only for May admission, right? If it was for Fall too, then I will kill myself for not applying!!! I deferred from May.
Hi GatorCane! Congrats! If you have facebook type University of Miami Nursing (Accelerated BSN Fall 2009 Cohort) so I can add you into the group! Its for everyone who is accepted into the program to ask questions and stuff! :-)
Thanks Mr. StudentNurse... I am coming Fall 2009 too. I deferred from May 2009. I did so because I could not get my letter of information from Selective Services System to explain why I never signed on by age 26. It is sad: I am yet to get this letter from them. I think the office is critically understaffed. So wonder whether I will have to defer again!! Without the letter, FAFSA will not certify my aid application! Without that, no financial aid!!
Anyway, hope I come!
I forgot to say: yes, I got in while I was taking 2 courses.

Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know. They will give you guys a nursing tote that has lab supplies and a stethoscope (except for the penlight, you will need to get one). It is for labs and you can use the steth for clinicals. It's a pretty basic (sprague) one but will hold you over if you decide to get one later. I am actually using the one I bought anyways since we weren't informed we were getting a nursing kit. Btw... I am from the current May class.
p.s. you guys are lucky you are starting on a fall semester. We are shorted by 5 weeks by starting in the summer (with patho and pharm, wish we weren't cramming it all in such a short summer semester). Anyways, good luck

Good luck everyone!!! Be prepared for a lot of work. I'm in the group that started this summer. Let me know if you have any questions.
Hi Angel4gzus,
Thank you for the offer! Just one question: housing! I am still out-of-state and trying to find housing. Seems like the Coral Gable houses are expensive. Did you ever get housing before you arrived? Did the school tell you of your clinical attachment site before you arrived? That should really help in looking for housing when you know the attachment site.
Hey Does anyone know if they provide the scholarship in the fall also??

What exactly is in the nursing tote? I wouldn't mind reducing expenses!
This is the email I recieved about the scholarship:
Good morning *****,
Thank you for your interest in the University of Miami's Accelerated BSN Scholarship Program. Unfortunately, at this time we will not be awarding additional scholarships for 2009.
I wish you success in your educational endeavors.
Warm Regards,

Hey Sky! As for housing I was able to stay on campus for the summer but I have to move out and find somewhere else for the fall because they will not be offering housing to students in the program. They say it's because of our status. Maybe it's because we already have a degree so they only offer housing to undergraduates. I mean we are undergraduates but I don't understand their philosophy. You should call the housing office and make sure you tell them you are in the accelerated nursing program so they won't give you misinformation. Apartment prices are mad crazy over here so I will have to just take extra loans to cover a place to stay. Also, don't focus on Coral Gables alone. There are a lot of areas around town. Some people commute long distances to get here. I am looking for a place to stay myself..................As for clinical sites, they didn't tell us. We got to sign up during our orientation. I don't know how clinical site placement will work for the fall. We randomly picked a spot, most of us not knowing where it would be until after we signed up......Public transportation is what I rely on to get to my clinical site. There is a metrorail. It's like a train but it's elevated so it's convenient and fast. Some people drive to campus and ride the metrorail to where they need to go.......In the tote there are a lot of supplies you will end up using during the program to practice skills. Things you wouldn't be able to find at the store so don't worry about them. The stethoscope and a sphygmomonometer are also in it. You do have to but a penlight though. It is not included......All you need to buy is white shoes, I bought $12 white shoes from walmart LOL, a watch and a penlight.
