What do YOU need in NCLEX prep?

3 questions: 1) When it comes to NCLEX preparation, if you could wave a magic wand and have any result TODAY, what would that be? (Other than just being done with the NCLEX - lol!) 2) Why is getting that result so important to you / what will change in your life if you get that result? 3) What are your top 3 roadblocks to getting that result? I'd love to hear your input!

University of Miami accelerated program spring 09

I think I saw someone post on the forum for the class that began in May that you can go to the computer labs to take the exams, but I'm not sure if I'm remembering right - search for the May 2009 accel. BSN, and see if you can find it. Sorry I'm not more helpful, but I think I remember seeing something like that.

I keep forgetting to post this from the other UM Accelerated program page - the ISBNs for the first semester's textbooks - You've probably have seen it already, but it helps me to feel that I have an idea of what's coming: 9780781765879 9780781770873 9781416051886 9780323048262 9780323026321 9780323029285 9780323067843 9780323052924 Also, they say you can substitute 2 of the numbers (9780323026321 & 9780323029285) with 9780323026314 - I wonder if that makes a difference in the price?

Mr.StudentNurse: I got the immunization form in the mail - maybe about a week or 2 ago. Nothing else other than that and the acceptance letter has come, though.

pbnole: I've been trying to figure out what I can expect from Financial Aid when they surprise me with everything in August, and do you mean that we can expect to be approved for a certain amount of federal loans and then have UM actually extend only half of them to us? Or something else entirely? I'm just curious about any details you can give me. Would you recommend that I just get approved for private education loans (Sallie Mae, etc.) for the worst case scenario and then downgrade the loans if I need to? The way I understand is that we can get up to $5,500 in Stafford Subsidized loan, and $7000 in Stafford Unsubsidized - am I even on the right track? Can we expect to get any aid directly from the University itself in addition to federal aid? Thanks so much for your help - I've already been to Financial Aid office but they pretty much just show you the door. I'm just not sure what to expect.

University of Miami Accelerated BSN Fall 2009

I was in the other thread for the people who started the ABSN yesterday (May 2009) and saw that I needed to go to the web page and get those things done. What I hate is that I did all the titers and immunizations, etc, with the last version of the paperwork, and then the day after I went in to take care of it, they had changed the paperwork, removing the option to prove immunity with a titer for some of the requirements. Pain in the butt...I'm still getting there - Now I also have to go back to do a PPD 3 months before the program starts - now would be too early, without that I'd be done. In the other thread, it seems that most people think the school is not very administratively organized. We'll see how it goes the closer we get to starting. I've been to UM in an attempt to handle some administrative things, and they essentially told me - "forget it, leave us alone, because we're dealing with the May class right now - not you". LOL So, the other thread is pretty good for a heads up on some things. I hear we should get paperwork telling us to pay another $500 to secure a clinical slot soon, and that we should get info about what supplies they require for clinical & classes (specific scrubs, shoes, laptop, etc...) We'll see what happens - what have you guys heared?

Yay - I found it! I'm getting pretty psyched about starting in August too - I got my American DataBank packet in the mail today and will set everything up to take care of that soon. How are you guys doing with all those details?

Is the new thread elsewhere, and I just can't find it? Sorry - I'm new to this whole thing. Good to hear from you!

That's awesome! You're the first I've heard back from who got into Accel BSN this fall - I know there's more out there, and I'm sure we'll all find each other slowly. :-) Congratulations!

Has anyone gotten in for the Fall 2009 accelerated program starting in August? I have, but am wondering when I will start to get all the info about what I need to get done, and what offices I need to get to to prove I have immunizations, how to get a background check done, etc. Do you think I can start going into offices now and taking care of things like that on campus? I'm also curious if we can get the titles/authors of the major textbooks for the first semester so I can get an advance move-on. Thanks for all your help - It's good to get an idea of what to expect!

I've been accepted for August 2009 - is anyone else in that class? Thanks for letting us know about the competition for the scholarships and the difficulty level of the classes. I'm teetering as to whether I'm going to go the UM or (seriously) Miami Dade for a simple RN. The cost makes it a difficult question in this economy... any input?

University of Miami Fall of 2009

I just found out that I got in, and I didn't expect to get in at all - it was a surprise. :-) I have a GPA just over 3.0 (depending on how you count it,) so that was just barely good enough, but my last 30-40 credits have been almost all A's - including A&PI,II, Microbio, Chem I&II, OCHM, and all the other pre-reqs they ask for. Since they let me in, it seems that they take the science course grades very seriously. I hope you hear good news, or already have! :-)
