Pulse heard over RUQ & LUQ?

When listening for bowel sounds, a loud pulse was heard over the RUQ & the LUQ, but is not heard in either of the lower quadrants of the abdomen. What could this be?

Wow, my bad everyone. I realize that DA is not an "official" abbreviation and I would/will never use it to document. I'm sorry :(

Since the original poster hasn't returned yet...

Would an aortic aneurysm be audible in the abdomen?

Trying to keep the thread as a guiding tool for sake of the OP. ;)

Go to your A&P book. Look at the cardiovascular anatomy. Look at the descending aorta. What does it branch out to and where? Which organs are located in the RUQ and LUQ of the abdomen?

Another question for the OP, do your think that this is NORMAL?

Alas, the OP has left the building. Her homework questions wasn't answered fast enough, so she may never come back. Sigh.

Isn't this a shame. We're bringing up a generation dependent on technology and the hard work of others. This question could have been a great teaching tool for other students. Shame, shame shame!

Wonder if students think this is similar to Yahoo answers lol. "No critical thinking with yahoo, ugh these AN people are making me think, I'm outta here, WebMD here I come" haha not all of them are like that so students please don't get offended if you stayed long enough to read this ;) we truly are here to help you. So please come back to the threads you start.

Hey, it's not a total loss. I learned quite a bit from the OP's thread! :)

And this is why we keep responding. :) Thanks.

I'm a student... I've never heard a pulse in in the UQs but I would be thinking about a possible aortic aneurysm. Is this correct?

This is a great example why you will hear pulses in the RUQ and LUQ, also the patient may/will c/o of pulsating sensation in the abdomen.
