  1. Would someone be willing to help me with the OB GTPAL system? Here is the story: Mrs. Smith, a 37-year-old Caucasian woman, presented to your OB/GYN office for her first prenatal visit. Mrs. Smith states her last menstrual period began January 15,th and a positive pregnancy test reveals she is pregnant for the sixth time. Her previous pregnancy history includes three spontaneous abortions because of cervical insufficiency/premature dilation of the cervix. Her last two pregnancies were carried to term, but Mrs. Smith had to stay in bed for three months. She also developed gestational diabetes during her last pregnancy. Mrs. Smith is 5 foot 2 inches tall, weighs 190 lbs., and smokes 1 ½ packs per day. What is Mrs. Smiths' gravida and para, utilizing the GTPAL system? This is what I got: Gravida - 6 Term - 2 Preterm - 3 Abortions - 3 (if losses were before 20 weeks) Living - 2 Is this right? If not, could someone help me with these? Thank you in advance!!!
  2. Thanks for your response! I am/will be working during the program, so technically I could make payments. It sounds like you end up paying less in the end if you make payments (not just interest) through-out school?
  3. I took them together. It required a lot of studying. If you are a strong student, go for it! You can also drop a class after a couple classes if you decide it's going to be too much.
  4. Hi all, So for my BSN program, financial aid/scholarships don't cover everything. I'm not able to have a cosigner for a loan, but thankfully I have pretty good credit. So for private student loans, (around $14,000) regarding the repayment plan - which is the best way to go? Is it better to repay some every each month? Or to just pay interest each month? Or to completely defer the amount in hopes of applying for loan forgiveness? (I've only heard slightly about this, I am not very knowledgeable about it, forgive my ignorance right now, but I've heard nurses can apply) Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
  5. Hi everyone! I am currently going to school full time to complete more pre-reqs for my BSN. I am a new-grad LPN. I have the possibility of working for Kaiser - but it'd be on-call. I don't absolutely need the job, and I currently help with my parents, whose health isn't stable. I'm not sure about adding the stress of a job right now, but for experience, I thought I'd look into working PRN, possibly. Has anyone ever worked for Kaiser "on call?" How was it? Could you describe it to me? Would you recommend it at all? Thank you!
  6. This is a very basic question but: When you put on a bandage or even band-aid over a joint, do you put it on when the extremity is flexed or extended? I'm sure it depends on what type of bandage etc, but let's use a band-aid for an example. Thanks!
  7. When listening for bowel sounds, a loud pulse was heard over the RUQ & the LUQ, but is not heard in either of the lower quadrants of the abdomen. What could this be?
  8. Thanks for this advice, guys. I guess I was just getting discouraged that that actual nursing part of a BSN is 4-5 semesters and my LPN was 3 semesters. Kinda wish I would've just gone for BSN to begin with, but that's alright. I guess finishing what I started is better than not finishing and something happens and I'm not able to get into/finish the BSN program. Thanks for all the advice. Any other advice is appreciated. Thanks.
  9. Thanks for the responses. I don't intend to work as an LPN since I have a job already... does that change any opinions? Thanks! :)
  10. Hi there, I am currently in a 3 semester LPN program and in the 2nd semester. End of Spring 2014 I will have my LPN license. However I've been thinking about just going for BSN instead of finishing the LPN. To transfer from LPN to BSN (or LPN to RN for that matter) will take just as long as just stopping now and getting the BSN. The only credits that will transfer are my pre-reqs. Any opinions: Should I stop now and start BSN Spring 2014 or finish LPN until Spring 2014 and then look into starting a BSN or LPN to BSN? Thanks!
