Double Bagging???

:typingOkay so...I just started nursing school yesterday 9/4 and I have heard the term double bagging a couple of times. I didn't get a chance to ask what it was and now I am going through one of my assignments and need to know what it is or what it means. I can't find it anywhere in my books...Please Help Me!:bow: Thanks!!!

In what context is it used? I've been in school for over a year and I have never heard the term before. The only thing that comes to mind is putting on two pairs of gloves to clean up vomit or stool or blood or some other biohazard or to put in a suppository or something because the glove companies are allowed so many small holes per square inch. I'd be interested to know what it means too.

If the context is Infection Control, it refers to the outdated, ritualistic practice of removing soiled linen (or anything else) from a room in which a pt w/a communicable disease has been cared for.

One nurse, wearing an isolation gown and gloves, places the soiled linen in a bag; another nurse stands outside the room w/a second bag held open-sort of folded over her arms so s/he only touches the outside of the bag. The nurse in the room places the bagged items in the second bag; s/he must only touch the INside of the bag. The soiled stuff is then sent off to the laundry, trash, whatever.

Double bagging: use of two bags to contain potentially biohazardous material. Plastic is porous, after all. At every facility I worked at, the lab we contracted, at the local hospital, required us to double bag urine and stool specimens to transport.

we double bag lined soiled by bodily waste or if the pt has mrsa.

use a innner bag that dissloves in hot water so that laundry don't touch the lined

Yes, Yes, Yes:yeah:...that's what I thought I just wasn't positive. It is used in the Infection Control context, sorry I didn't specify that. Thank you all very much for your help!

When googled double bagging the first time, I got a bit of a shock, Bortaz. I had to google double bagging + nursing to get what I wanted.
