I have been given a question for an exam and need an answer to it can anyone help? the question is... "most medications are referred to in 3 different ways... what are they?"

Are you taking the test right now? And is that a test question?

I'm just asking before I answer so that I know I'm not doing something unethical here.

No the test is in 1 week this is home study leading up to the test.

Maybe...Brand name (always capitalized)...generic (never capitalized) and chemical?

Tablets, injections, suppositories?

Just a simple question...What are the effects of medication on a empty stomach. Is medication absorbed faster or slower? Thanks

I think they are referring to percutaneous, parental, and enteral

i think i'm going to go with the brand name, generic and chemical.

what concepts are you studying now, that might coincide with this question?

I agree with Leslie and EMSboss. Each med has a brand name, a generic name, and a chemical name.

You have 2 questions here.

1. Medication may irritate the stomach if empty. Certain meds can alter the pH of the stomach.

2. Depends on the medication. Some will need an empty stomach , others need to bind w/ food to absorb.

There should be a section on this in your pharmacology book, probably toward the front, on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
