Stethoscope Help

Nurses Uniform/Gear

I start nursing school soon, can anyone offer some help on choosing a stethoscope? I have looked at a few and seem to have a hard time hearing with them. I did like the Pure Tone from Dr.'s Research Group. Any ideas if they are a reputable company or do they offer good products? Everyone tells me to stick with Littman, but I just wanted to make sure before investing in a stethoscope.

Littman's good but I have a Ultrascope and it's works just as well as the Littman and you can personalize it with different bells and tubing. Everyone has a Littman with the black or burgandy tubing that you can put down and will all of the sudden grow legs and walk away but nobody has an ultrascope with lime green tubing and a turtle on the bell. They both run about the same around $100. I've never heard of a Pure Tone so I can't help you there. Just remember you get what you paid for.

I have a Littman Classic 2 SE as does all my instructors. Most of my classmates have them too. Check online there are many places that sell them at all different prices. Shop for the best price! I got mine ingraved free. Good Luck

I have a littman classic I think it was called "light"- a pretty light blue, lot's of people in my class have them- they come blue, green, purple and of course black. Not to expensive- maybe $50- one girl said she got hers on line for $38.

Littmann Master Cardiology stethoscope...........they may be a bit pricey but you can find them on sale from time to time............even still a good stethoscope is something you'll gonna keep for a long time, get a good one otherwise you'll be buying another one because a cheap one won't cut it..............ex: morbidly obese person 6inch fat layer.........the first 2 I bought I couldn't hear the heart beat.........with the Master Cardiology stethoscope it sounded like a shoe in the dryer..........considering he has a S3 and S4......it was worth the price.

Try to do a search on here, cuz its been searched many times before. My quick 2 cents: Littmanns are great stethoscopes but they are expensive. I have a littmann cardiology 3 which is an excellent model but is also heavy. Don't buy a sprague-rappaport by ADC, but Prestige makes an ok model of the same sprague rappaport. The cheap ones in the lab will work well on most pts but I do agree with Rage that obese pts are harder to auscultate and therefore require a better stethoscope. Do get a name tag on your stethoscope when you buy it (use tape, stickers, pt armbands, etc-go cheap).

Good luck with your shopping. if you need any help the members on here are excellent.
