  1. My advice to you is keep your chin up and don't give up. I'm in Philly, just got hired at a hospital downtown and had another job offer up north doing dialysis. I took the job in Philly because the pay was better and was something l was interested in doing. I agree with previous posters as they have given some great advice. If you have friends or family, they may know someone who is a nurse. Obviously since they know you've went to nursing school, your family can help you network, and the nurses they know come crawling out of the woodwork. What I mean is that I had a neighbor who's sister-in-law was vice president of clinical operations at a hospital, I had an uncle who's girlfriend was director of admissions to a nursing home, I had a cousin who was director of nursing at a long term care facility. They didn't offer me jobs but they said they would keep me in mind for open positions. Send out resumes, make cold calls to nurse recruiters, attend job fairs, all of this is great advice. You'll find something, it may not be what you want, but take it for the experience, work a year and you'll get the job that you want.
  2. Hi, Just wanted to say that by keeping an open mind and pounding the pavement, calling, and PACareerLink, I was able to get about 6 interviews lined up and actually got two job offers....one at Hahnemann in Philly and one in East Stroudsburg for a dialysis company. I ended up taking the Hahnemann job because I live in Bucks County and really didn't want to relocate if I didn't have to. Graduated in May 2010 from Aria Health School of Nursing. My advice for those looking for a job at the moment is don't give up, there are positions out there. Take a look at PACareerLink, in one day, I had 5 calls for interviews all over the state of Pennsylvania. If you can relocate or are willing to relocate, do so. I don't think the market will stay like this for long. I start next month at Hahnemann. Good luck and keep your chin up.

  5. Happy New Year everyone!! I have always had a problem with organization until I read the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. He helps you get things organized. Now, I use the Franklin-Covey planner. It's expensive but it is well worth it for keeping organized. It has everything that you would need, it cost me about $85 but it is money well spent. Check them out at: www.franklincovey.com Again, Happy New Year and I start NS on Friday!!! Sincerely, B
  6. Last semester at community college: College Algebra--Probably a "B" Abnormal Psychology--Definitely an "A" Congrats to all of you and Good Luck to all my fellow January 2008 starters!!!! Kenny:monkeydance:
  7. Hey y'all, I just wanted to know if anyone else out there is starting at Frankford in January. I am and I just wanted to say Hello to all of you. I cannot wait until then as I have wanted to be a nurse for 15 years now and I have had things happen to get in the way. I'm so excited and happy that there are only 57 days until the first day of class. I hope to hear from all of you. To those of you still in school, good luck the rest of the semester. Take care, B "You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments when you have truly lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love." Henry Drummond
  8. In the arms of an angel, may you find some comfort here.... "Angel"--Sarah Mclachlan When I read this post, this is the first song I thought of.... Take care, B 59 Days until Nursing School Starts!!!!
  9. I'll be 33 when I graduate with my ADN and still contemplating the BSN..it's only 9 months after that... Take care, B
  10. Magna Fortis Sonocardia is $189. Does anyone have one of these?
  11. I will be starting my first semester of Nursing School, I will be taking Nutrition, Biochemistry, English, and Nursing 101. Nutrition and English are repeats for me.
  12. Allieinaz, First of all, congrats on your decision to "finish what you started". I was in the same boat as you. At 31, I have decided to go back to school and fulfill the dream I had as a kid to be a nurse. It will be worth it. I just recently got accepted at a hospital school here in PA. I know what you are saying. Other posters have gotten it correct. It's not the high schoolers you have to worry about, it's the nontraditional students like you and me. I think what happens and I know from my own experience...when you are young and in school, you don't take it as seriously as you should(party, hanging out, not studying). Now that I'm older, I kick myself and think about what could have been if I had only stayed in school. I now take school a LOT more seriously and I have a 3.875 GPA to show for it. It's part of the maturing process. I look at others my age who have a college degree and a bigger paycheck and wonder why I dropped out to be with "the one" who didn't turn out to be the one. My wife now has been so supportive and she is ready for the sacrifices that will start in January but she knows in the end we will have a better life. I wish you luck on this adventure and enjoy the ride!!! Take care, B
  13. 26 is not too late to start nursing school. I've wanted to be a nurse since I, however, "life" happened and I never made it to clinical part of nursing school. I start nursing school in January at the young age of 31. Never ever give up on this or think it's too late. My older brother who's been a nurse now for almost 11 years was 32 or 33 when he graduated. Sincerely, B
  14. Hey Y'all, I just wanted to let you know that on Friday I officially got "the letter", I knew that I had gotten in already, but this makes it official. I'm so excited:monkeydance:!!!! Classes start on January 2nd. There is paperwork that has to be back on November 1st. There is paperwork that has to be back on November 19th. Open House on October 30. Shots that I need to get. Tests that I need to have done(TST, twice no less!!) Lots of stuff to do before those deadlines. Orientation in December!! All while working full time and going to school still at night. It's going to be a bumpy ride but well worth it at the end!! For those of you sweating it out, it's been said before, enjoy the ride because the relief you feel at the end of it all is going to be worth it. For those of you who have been rejected more times than you can count, keep your head up and shoulders high. If the desire to make nursing your career is there, then you will do whatever you have to do in order to get into nursing school. There is a fire deep down inside of me that will not go out ever. I've wanted to do this since I was 16 years old but never quite made it this far. I'm 31 now and have had things happen in my life that prevented me from my goal. From here, it is uncharted territory. I'm so happy and proud of myself right now. I have a very supportive family who is proud of me and I have a mother who is watching over me from above and cheers me on. I'm enjoying this high, and know that I still have work to do. Hang in there, everyone who is still waiting. I wish you all luck!!! Sincerely, B:roll
