Nursing shoes

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

I recently passed my boards and am looking for my first nurse job. I have always had a problem with finding shoes that can last the long shifts I work. I also have flat feet. I recently tried on a pair of Timberland caregivers and thought they were pretty comfortable. I was just curious of anyone has ever worn these and what they thought. I know some shoes are comfortable in the store but cant hold up to being on your feet all day. Any input would be helpful.

Danskos are absolutely the best for long shifts!

If you decide to do Danskos, you can get them at a discounted rate on 6pm.com and they also have other brands as well like Timberland

it really depends on the person wearing the shoes. I only wear New Balance. I tried Dankos and I hated them. Everyone has different feet and different issues. There is no one kind that is good for all.

The bottom line is to spend some time investigating what type of shoe fits you best and you find most comfortable. And then shell out the bucks, because it's worth every penny to have comfortable feet and legs.

Aside from shoes a good pair of support hose are worth their weight in gold.

I agree with the others that you should invest some time in trying on the shoes and looking for what works for your feet, but you wont really know until you wear a pair and either like or dislike. I have wearing New Balance since I have worked in the field or some type of gym shoe which works for me but now I noticed that my feet start hurting more now by the end of my work day. I have been researching shoes and hose to wear.

A tidbit I learned from going to get my knees replaced: Running shoes (and walking shoes) excell at keeping your feet, ankles, knees and hips all pointed forward and going forward. But our work has us stopping, starting, pivoting and sidestepping. Wearing running shoes can actually cause knee pain. Crosstrainers or court shoes are a better choice than running shoes. Of course some type of work shoe (Dansko, Sanita, or otheres) are the best choice.

ALEGRIA!

That's it. I know a lot of people love them, but I couldn't remember the name! DH has been wearing Doc Martins for years, and he loves them.

Thanks everyone for their input :) I'm going to go try on a bunch of shoes and see how they feel :)
