Puerto Rico school feedback - thread #2

Published

Wow after 9 years and 1336 posts they closed our thread because it was too long.

The original thread and all the helpful posts can be found here:

https://allnurses.com/international-nursing/puerto-rico-school-28678.html

There are 134 pages in that thread but the last 130 pages were from 2010 and beyond and there is a ton of helpful info in there. Hopefully the current students will continue this thread as I graduate this month. Please try to read that thread at least a little bit before posting your questions here as it is very likely your question has been asked and answered on the other thread more than once.

Good luck on whatever path you choose!

Thank you! I was shocked and happy when they told me since again only two people are choosen from the entire island. I met the two girls that are in it now. One was from la inter so its probably your friend.

I wish you the best of luck and keep us updated on your nursing career!

Yeah it is a great honor. ******* is the one from La Inter in the Valor program. I know a couple people from our school that applied this year but didn't get it. It may be an age thing too though because 2 of them were in their 50s. I could see there being age discrimination in PR.

I am so not saying you didn't deserve it. Just sayig their age didn't help them. Do you know what school the other student is from?

He is from El Turabo in Caguas. I believe its the first time a student from that school got picked. The director told me that it was going to be very hard to make her decision since all the applicants were amazing.

Does ****** know spanish?

Does Mariposa know spanish?

***** is brilliant. She studied one year of Spanish in high school. She studied 2 years of French in college the first time around. Then she did a semester in AFrica in Mali and learned some Bamako.

She started speaking Spanish here within a month. Super bright girl. She holds full on intelectual conversations in Spanish. My hat goes off to her but I couldn't do it without a ton of effort.

She's like a friend I have in the states. They learn languages fast! I think thats what helped her (other than being bright and intelligent) when she was choosen that she is bilingual because the other girl that was with her was from UPR and was also fully bilingual.

Everyone that I know that applied speaks Spanish. But again they can only pick 2.

And last year when ****** applied I know some of the other candidates from my class and they were all very bright bilingual people.

That Valor program will open a ton of doors for you when it's time to find that first dreaded job.

Oh ok I didn't know they spoke Spanish too. Well it's an honor even being recommend . I was told valor students get priority if they choose to stay in the VA . Priority compared to another new grads with no experience other than clinicals.

Hey guys,

Can someone give me info on shipping items to the island. Did anyone ship furniture, linen, dishes, etc. or did you just buy things when you arrived in puerto rico.

Thanks

Stuff is pretty cheap here. Shipping it would probably cost more than just buying it here at walmart or Capri ( store in PR it's pretty reasonable so is pitusa)
