University of Phoenix ON LINE Nursing program

Does anyone have any personal opinions about this way of getting your RN-BSN degree? I work full time, and it is unpredictable when I will get off at the end of the day. I work in an EP lab, and we work till we are done basically. It is very hard for me to commit to a certain time and day for class, not knowing I will be out of work at the time.

It is one class every five weeks with one week off between. $400 per credit(most classes are 3 credits). It comes to just above $9000 per year. It is 100% on line. They said it takes about 10-15 hours per week of your time. You can get on line at any time 24/7

How is the University of Phoenix and ON line education viewed(In the real world)

I looked into Phoenix and then chose Indiana Wesleyan University. It is 100% online. You log in any time 24/7. It is 280/credit hour with most classes being 3 credit hours. They have a nice payment plan for people with some tuition reembursment. I love it! :balloons:

I did the UoP BSN and now MSN and have liked it very much. I have liked it very much. I doubled many of the BSN classes and did it in 18 months and then I've done the MSN in 12 months. Doable, but not fun. Will be terribly glad when June 6th comes.

Another thing about the Indiana Wesleyan University program is that it only costs around $12,500 for the whole two year program. I think that the University of Phoenix Online course costs about double that amount. Also the Wesleyan program consists of just one course/unit at a time (I think they tend to last about 7 weeks each). Some people like the concept of being able to "focus" their attention in that manner. They also take Pell grants, Stafford, and Perkins loans.

Out of curosity...are there clinicals involved with the online RN-BSN and MSN degrees? If these programs are 100% online...

No clinical at University of Phoenix.

IMO...I have 23 years of "clinical" experience(including management) Probably a LOT longer than the instructors.

I have been eyeing the University of South Alabama's online RN to BSN program for when I finish my ASN. From what I understand, I will be able to complete my BSN in 4 semesters (full-time) and at $187 per credit hour, I can do the whole thing for just under $6,000.

When you graduate from a university, the dipolma will not state "online"...it will read the same as all the other dipolma's offered by that university.

So unless you volunteer that information, no one would know that you received the course content over the internet versus in a classroom.

True. My spouse got his through the College Network, and went to graduation in Omaha at Bellview University with the rest of the students. His Masters Degree doesn't say anywhere "online" or "college network". it's the same as the other students who went to the campus.

I'm going online to Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences RN to BSN. If all goes well, I'll go to Orlando and graduate with those students who went to the campus, and receive the same degree they are getting. And why shouldn't I? I'm taking the same classes and working just as hard. :)

I'm also a student of the BSN online program and am currently taking my third class. I love it. Most of the classes last 5 weeks. There are two classes with clinicals but those are arranged locally. Those two classes are 7 and 9 weeks, I believe. It is a lot of work but doable. If I can offer any more information, please let me know.
