I am so happy that you girls came back with some info for us
BBOOGEYSMOM...I know you are a mom as well I need to know how did you feel it affected you and the relationship with your son etc....do you feel is doable if I am able to study only at night etc
Again I am so glad you are giving us some more info about the program
    Thanks
I think its totally doable, as long as you have a good support system. I fortunately do, so I feel that even when I am away, my son is being cared for by people I trust. There are many moms in the program and a lot of them are doing really well. I can't speak for the future semester workloads, since I haven't gotten there yet. But I never imagined nursing school would be easy, so I'm not counting on anything to be a breeze.

As for my relationship with my son, it hasn't suffered at all. In fact, I think it works out for both of us. I think he gets to explore without me and it actually gives him time to miss me, and vice versa. I find it incredibly rewarding to come home and he is so excited to see me. And it gives me built in breaks to be with him. I don't study when he's awake, unless I have note cards or some sheet of something to study handy and there is a big test coming up.

It is definitely harder when DH is out of town, like he is right now, but I still get in 2 or 3 hours at night and 2 or 3 when he's napping. And weekends are all about studying/eating/spending time with family. Yes, I barely get to chat with DH, but I make it a point to at least talk to him in the evenings at dinner time or as we're falling asleep. I look at it this way, its only for another year, and we'll survive it. This first semester has flown by.

oh it helps so much to hear it from another mom...I think I am more worried myself...I have a 2.5 yr old and a 5 month old and I just decided to apply for August 2009 instead of 2010. I am a SAHM right now and I am just overthinking everything...I am not expecting it too be easy but I hope I will be able to manage everything
thank you again and if you think of anything else helpful please share

It may differ for schools, like I said our first couple weeks we met from 10-5p on tues and wed, then we added on our pre-clinical and clincal days. At least that's how it was for us in the Glendale program. San Diego may be different because there are more students in their cohorts. Pre-clinical days, we started out going between 4-6pm and getting our patients because usually by that time the ones that were still on the flow board would most likely be there the next day. Once we got our new instructor, we went in at 1pm and stayed as long as we needed to to get our patient's info and such. Initially it did take us about and hr, hr and half because we had to learn the system and figure out where everything was. Once you get the hang of gathering the info and learning what's important and what's not, you can be in and out of there in about 30 mins. Our instructor was there just to supervise and be available for questions, we usually had post-clinical conferences on our clinical day where we talked about what we learned and stuff.
I tend to study in the later afternoon hours and into the night because I am a night owl, so it's definitely possible to just study hard for a couple of hours. There is a lot of reading to do and we get multiple modules a week for each class, but if you can learn to be efficient with your time, you don't have to study for hours! Plus our instructors are really good about exam review sheets and stuff that help focus your exam studying on the pertinent info.
Anyways, good luck to you all who are waiting, and to those who are accepted and eagerly awaiting the first day of class! It's a blast, it really is and it's definitely a rewarding career!

I want to get it too. I haven't called about any financial aid or insurance or anything yet. Was kind of saving (procrastinating) it for Monday :icon_roll Is there a number you can call to ask about enrollment?

I remember hearing that too, although knowing the times would be helpful! I'm not planning on quitting my job until the last possible day so I'll need to request some time off for the orientation.

Did you go to the open house? I think that is where most of us initally found out our status. Sorry to hear that you are an alternate, I was an alternate last time around. There is still a good chance though. When I spoke to someone withe program last time she told me that a lot of alternates have been accepted in the past! Good luck!
