Is anyone in the program or completed the program at University of Louisiana Lafayette. I'm interested to hear how intense the program is? I am considering applying but I haven't really heard any feedback from students who are currently in the program. Thank you

Yea. I'd like to hear about the program also. Also- for those of you in the August 2013 class- what course of study did your advisor set up? Ill post mine to compare. I'd like to finish in 15 months- not 2 years.

How are those of you who started in July finding the classes to be?

I'm set up to finish in August 2014. Only had 3 "co-reqs." Pretty pumped! I'm still nervous to start with no reviews of the program. Very surprising that nobody has ever posted anything about it. My local university is having orientation this week for their program and am really hoping I'm making the right choice with u of l. No clinicals, time, and cost is pretty much why I'm going. Wish me luck as I start on August 26th! Ill update after I start!

I just got my acceptance email and a proposed course of study. they have me starting in august 2013 and not finishing until June 2015. :( also they require speech comm, and I kind of refuse to take that....i have a ba in english lit and really will not take anymore communication or lit classes. so now i'm not sure about this program.[/quote']

I had to email and request my "ideal" schedule because i was set up to go until jan 2015 and I said absolutely not. She emailed right back with the "updated" schedule. Also, the Speech comm class is in place of history and humanities elective. I had to ask about that also. I plan to test out with clep tho!! Good luck let us know what u decide(d)!!

What's your course of study? Here's the one my adviser sent me:

2013 Aug Nur353 and 354

2013 Oct Nur327

2014 Jan Nur344

2014 Mar Nur355

2014 May none

2014 June none

2014 Aug Nur421

2014 Oct Nur396

2015 Jan Nur406

2015 Mar Nur499

Can you post your schedule or PM me---I'll email my adviser to change mine too. Also did you ask to have one of your humanities courses count toward the Speech Comm class? I don't want to have to take ANOTHER class...I'm already being required to take College Algebra, their Computer Literacy class, and I just finished Stats. :(

Thanks lots!

Finishing up the 1st two classes. The 1st class is an orientation class which teaches you how to navigate the websites, and "moodle" which is the online classroom system used -similar to blackboard or angel that other universities used. It introduces you to the library, how to upload a file, and make a profile etc.

The 2nd class is actually the first nursing class. Transitions to professional nursing (or something like that) It introduces different topics that "professional nurses" use like informatics, politically active nursing, professional identity, etc.

(The following information is from memory and not the syllabus to give you some idea, please don't quote me.)

Setup of the class were 2 chapters of reading were due each week. An online quiz over those 2 chapters which consisted of 10 to 15 multiple choice, true-false, matching questions. The quizzes were timed about 15-20 mins depending on the number of questions. Also there were 2 papers due which were 2-3 pages long with at least 2 references. 2 discussion forum postings, the original posting had to be 300 words and the reply to one student had to be 200 words both postings had to have 1 reference. Everything was APA format. We also had a crossword puzzle due, and a final project which was a longer paper of 3-5 pages.

The professor was very good at clarifying information on homework. There were no lectures but powerpoints on each chapter were available. The book is not the best...good material to fall asleep while reading, small print not many visual aids, no examples. I work 3 (12s) shifts a week and did not find the reading nor the homework overwhelming.

If you have any questions I'll try to answer them. I too feel like I went into it blindly since there was not much information on this site about the school so I thought I would put a little info out there. I do like that fact that I knew exactly what classes I have to take prior to starting, and when to take those classes. The school was very liberal with accepting previous coursework.

Thank you for the info..finally someone who is familiar with U of L! Sounds like the program is pretty good. Are you planning on taking more than one nursing class at a time to finish in a year? I would love to keep in touch throughout the next year for advice and pointers! Have you heard anything about what the capstone project is? They say no "clinical" but am curious as to what that's about.

My local University starts Monday and I'm not even all the way done with pre-admission stuff so I guess I'm officially going with U of L!! Anyone else starting in August???

I forgot to ask an important question...when were assignments due, and what day were the quizzes? I work 3 12's on night shift so I have to make sure I schedule myself to be able to turn in assignments on due dates!! thanks..

I also work 3 12s nights. Quizzes and papers were due Friday at 2000 Central time. I think discussion forum original postings were due on Tuesday@2000 CST, and reply postings were due on Thursday at @ 2000 CST. Assignments opened on Sunday at 0800.

All of my prereqs were done, so I only need the nursing classes. As far as finishing in a year, I am going by the degree plan the advisor gave me. I'm scheduled to take Nurs 355 and 396 together, and Nurs 406 and 421 together. Hopefully, its doable.

I've only taken the first 2 classes so I am by no means and expert on this school. No I have no idea, about the "capstone" project, but if others can do it so can we! I keep tell myself this isn't rocket science.

I'll post updates as I become more familiar, and I don't mind answering questions, hopefully the information is helpful.

I went back and read my reply. Let me clarify: Assignments opened up on Sunday @ 0800 that meant that is when the instructions were given for what was due for the week. You have all week to do the assignments but assignments had to be done by 2000 on Friday. There are no time specific times when you have to log in, you work at your pace to get assignments completed, and usually you have all week, unless it was discussion board postings, then it was a Tuesday/Thursday due date. The final assignment we were given extra time (maybe a week and 1/2), and I think it was due on Monday evening

I applied there for Jan. Do you know how long does it take them to evaluate your transcript? you said you took all the prereqs? So you did not have to take the Computer Literacy class? Did you take any course that can be substituted for that class? Sorry for the many questions and thank you in advance!
