And to everyone there who thinks they need to use the College Network to complete their degree through ISU's LPN-BSN program. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE THEM!

Save your money and grief and look for your testing modules online on eBay.

I am so sorry you have to go through this. Thanks for sharing, it's people like you that can make a change by sharing your experience.

How could you have not known about this? They would have had to send you the product in order to keep up their end of the contract. If they didn't send you any study modules they can't very well place a $4000 debt on your credit report. You should be successful in your legal battle with them.

caliotter3, I got a bill from their credit union for the "student loan" a month after I cancelled the contract. I told them that the contract with TCN was cancelled and they said to just disregard the bill they had sent me and that they didn't get the notice that the contract was cancelled.

Also, I didn't receive any products from them.

I am unemployed at the moment and don't have the money to hire a lawyer but, I am going to try to see if there is any organization who can give me free legal advice.

Contact local bar association referral service and ask for a referral to their "modest means panel". From what I have seen about this situation, an attorney is necessary at this point. They will get a judgement against you and attach or take any assets you have. Keep a close watch on your bank accounts. Court cases can come and go with no notice to you until you find your bank account suddenly cleaned out one day. Not very funny. Good luck.

I would check with your state consumer protection agency (whatever it's called in your state) and/or the state attorney general's office, regarding the legality of what TCN has done. Those organizations won't charge you anything for answering your questions (they work for you already ) -- you may be able to resolve things through them, or, at least, you'll find out where you stand and whether you need to hire an attorney.

I hope you have copies/receipts/etc., of all your communication with TCN.

    Best wishes!

I agree with the people who said get a lawyer. Also, notify the credit reporting agencies so they can mark that debt as disputed. You should be able to google the protocol for doing that.

I wanted to update everyone regarding my thread.

I called the credit union listed on my credit report pertaining to the Collge Network. They told me that the record should fall off my credit report and that I don't owe any money to them. I plan on checking my report in 3 months to make sure the record is deleted.

I also called the College Network to check again that my contract was in fact cancelled. It was.

I documented everything with names, numbers, times, and verbiage and have all of my paperwork, "just in case".

I'm happy this mess is over and done with.

Not to be a spoilsport, but it will not be over and done with until it is, in fact, off your credit report. You know that following through to put this false info on your credit report was more likely a despicable act of retaliation rather than a mere administrative mistake. Their way of getting the last laugh on you. Companies do this type of thing all the time, or to be more precise, individuals working at these companies do it.

Do you have any written statement from them that says the contract is cancelled and that you owe them no money? If not, I would insist upon one. I would then use that written statement to fix your credit report ASAP. You don't want that wrong information sitting out there. Who knows when it could hurt you. If you have nothing in writing and wait around for a few months to check up on it, they might try to use your failure to address that mistake against you in some way.

In short ... Get it in writing.
