I may be approved for a stafford loan. Does anyone know anything about them? I know they are a federal loan. It states I may be eligible for 12,500. Is that 12,500 a year or for my whole BSN. I have never done this before. Any help would be great!!!! I paid for Nursing school on my own but was very blessed to go to college many years ago and get a bachelors in another field on my fathers tab. Any suggestions for financing and grants etc...

finaid.org and studentaid.ed.gov are great sources that break down eligibility, loan limits per year and limits to borrowing loans.

Most schools will probably require that you complete the entrance counseling at https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action before accepting a Stafford loan. Lots of good info there. :)

I have a Stafford loan. The 12,500 is per year, not the whole program. I would stick with the federal loan rather than a private loan, since the interest rate for private loan depends on whatever the lender wants to charge. Stafford interest rates are capped unless/until the government decides to raise the interest rate.
