Some Excelsior questions

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hello,

I have spent the last 2 hours searching this site to find these answers, but i did not find specifically what I need to know.(though I did learn a lot - thanks!)

Ok short story - in school for BSN - completed entire degree, except got C- in final med surg class. So here I am with lots of student loans, and a very expensive bachelors degree in "professional studies" , well over 150 credits and two kids to support.

I just applied to Excelsior and know I have to wait to see what they say about my transcripts, but in the mean time I need to quickly gauge approximately how long it will take me to get through the program - so:

I know that I probably won't have to take any of the general eds except maybe information literacy.

But when it comes to the nursing component - does everyone always have to take all of those or can some of them usually be transferred?

Has anyone here come in from a similar situation where they did not finish rn program and what did you have to take?

Basically I need to figure out if this is something that I could probably complete by this time next year.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Amanda

I don't think I've opened any of my mail since January.

My kitchen table hasn't had food on it since last September. LOL My kids don't know who I am without a textbook in my possession. Thank goodness I only have to do 3 12 hour shifts a week. I took NC 1 in Aug of 08 and then finished the other 6 by April 17th.

I came into the program as LPN with a BA in Political Science. I took A&P 1+2, Micro and Chem, all with labs, at my local comm college. Took NC1 in December 2007 then actually applied. Took 4 exams in Sept 2008, last exam in October 2008. Failed first CPNE March 1, 2009, passed 2nd attempt May 10, 2009. I got all A's and B's, worked more than fulltime, have a teenage son and husband, neither drive and we live miles from nowhere. For me, I had to be able to just sit down with books and study on the fly so I turned my dining room into a study hall and worked at it while making dinner, doing laundry, etc. I guess it would depend on how old are your kids, how much sleep do you need, how messy can your house get before you lose your mind. Good luck, stay posted.

This is so true, it's pretty bad when the only communication from your family is in the dust atop your funiture!!!!
