RN with Non-Nursing Bachelor's Wants BSN then MSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

I know there are a million threads on this, however I've been searching for hours and none answers my questions specifically.

I have an ADN and BA. Most hospitals want a BSN and I need a job. I've thought about just doing an RN-MSN, however all of these people are saying most jobs still require a BSN even if you have an MSN - which is just plain ridiculous in my opinion.

Basically, I want to do a BSN entirlely online and in ONE SEMESTER. Seriously, I already have a BA, I've taken all my science classes, statistics, psych, all my nursing and clinical courses for the ADN it shouldn't be more than 3 classes to get the BSN.

Does anyone know of an ONLINE school where you can get your BSN in one semester if you are already an RN with a bachelors? I can't find any, they all seem to want more time and money from me. Thanks!

Should I not waste my time with the BSN and just go direct into an MSN program. I want to be an FNP someday in a clinic setting. Don't really want to work in a hospital my whole life.

I don't think you are going to find a one semester deal. They can't make money off you for so short a period of time. Any of the RN to BSN programs would probably do. I would make the choice based on your criteria. I kind of think going the MSN route might not be the better choice because of what you stated, and for a lot of jobs, they could discriminate against you for different "reasons". They can always call you overqualified, education-wise.

I think you'll find that most RN-to-BSN programs have about 6 nursing classes, some of which are pre-reqs for the others, so it wouldn't be possible to take them all at the same time. The fastest I've seen is Chamberlain, and it's three semesters, but it's mucho expensive. I just graduated from Chamberlain, and it was a good program. Good luck!

It is just crazy how long they expect some BA degrees to obtain a BSN. I am finding it is all about money in some cases.

I have a similar situation. Usually there are 12-14 courses required to complete the BSN~ all nursing courses. The fastest I've heard is about 12 months IF you have all the other requirements completed. I've also heard folks can complete in about 6 months if it's just the nursing courses since it's self paced.

I really am overwhelmed at where to go to school. I applied to Western Governors, Excelsior, and Walden for their RN-MSN programs, with Excelsior I think being a little shorter since they give me credit for my previous bachelors and there are no bridge courses. I am wondering if I should just go the BSN route now though since it seems that some job postings(educational) want you to have a BSN and MSN and not just the MSN. This is totally BS if you ask me, but I want to eventually teach. If some college would just offer a quick BSN for those of us with BAs in Psych I think they would make a lot of money! I also wish that all schools would consider a BA enough to enter their MSN directly. The inconsistencies are killing me. I could go to law school without a bachelor's in law!
