RN to BSN, what is the best way?

Nursing Students Online Learning

I am an RN in California and i am working full time. i would like to get my BSN while keeping my job. What is the best way to do that? online or traditional school. I have also heard about Excelsior college. But there is something about them not being accepted in California and some other states. Once you are an RN, is it possible to do your BSN through them and be accepted as an RN BSN in cali? If you want to do your masters in the future will the degree be acceptable too? i have a plan to go to a CRNA school in the future.

What are the pre-reqs for the BSN program?

Thank you so much

I did online via University of Phoenix and found it fit the bill for me: fast and very concise. Downside - its expensive.

Since you're already an RN you're not going to submit your degree to the state for approval, so where you get your BSN now that you're already an RN is of no interest to them.

Here is a thread where we're talking of online RN to BSN program. There are other options out there beside Excelsior. I would pick an NLN approved school, you can't go wrong there and those programs are readily transferred to MSN programs.

Most RN to BSN programs that I've seen acknowledge that their students are full time workers, and the program is done at a part-time/half-time basis. The local traditional schools here meet only once a week.

I like online myself because while there are deadlines, I don't have to run off to a class anywhere. The classes are right in my own home, on my own time.

It's a tough endeavor even part-time because our lives go on. I found working 3 12's leaves plenty of time for me to attend an online program.

Good luck to you! Be sure and ask any questions you might have.

I don't know if it's the best way but I'm going through Excelsior. Since you already have an RN license in California your BSN from Excelsior should be readily accepted. It's ASN graduates from Excelsior that California does not accept anymore.

Also, most graduate schools will accept a BSN from Excelsior. I have my hopes set on going to Frontier School of Midwifery to become a FNP/midwife.

PS, one of the reasons I chose Excelsior was because you can go at your own pace, most other schools are semester-based.

I'm not so sure. Do you know if the CA BRN will accept a BSN from E.C. for the PHN certificate for RN's already licensed?
