Hello, have any of you heard of the college networks, online LVN to BSn program? They sent me information about it. It is approved in California now because the clinicals are not online and you actually get a preceptor? It takes about 2 years. Is anyone enrolled or heard of it? Let me know cause I was intrested in doing it but not sure if its a good choice.

thanks

It is not through college network , it is through Indiana State university. College network is a middle man publishing company that charges crazy amounts for study material that you can get for almost nothing at e-bay or bookstores. If you have all your classes done (which is quite a bit ) it will still take you over 2 years. The clinicals are done in your area with a preceptor the one thing I did not like was having to find my own preceptor and there is no guarantee you will find one. I just did not want to invest all the money and time then get to the clinical and be hung. I think they do help you find one but still.... I would do some research on here about college network before signing. I am almost 100% sure you can go directly through ISU .

RU saying that I can take study material for the clep exams on ebay then transfer all my credits to ISU and do their online program? HMMM? Did you start the program and not complete it? was it difficult?

As the previous poster said, College Network and RUE are not nursing programs. They are nothing more than overpriced publishing companies that sell materials for Excelsior College and Indiana State University. People can obtain their online nursing degrees without ever having to sign up with the College Network and RUE. Buyer beware!

okay, for all you non believers....call Indiana State University and ask them how to complete the general ed classes....they TELL YOU TO CALL THE COLLEGE NETWORK due to their partnership with them.

yes, you can buy them on ebay however.....how can you be sure that you are getting the MOST up to date material?

when you go take the exam on that class, you have to pay a testing fee anywhere between 75 and 190 a test.....are you going to be secure to know that you're taking a test and paying that kind of money from a book that you bought off of ebay?

At least when you buy them directly from The College Network...as ISU recommends....you are getting the latest material based on ISU requirements. Plus, TCN has 15 hours of academic support and they guarantee that you pass or they hire and pay for a tutor to help you study, plus, they pay the testing fee after your second attempt.

come on....how can you put a price on your education? Especially...if you're in CA!? we've been waiting for 3 years for an online program to be available ...now that there is one....we find something to complain about?

you get what you pay for ......this is a nursing career....are you really looking for a cheap way out to get your BSN??? do you want a nurse working on you that took the cheap way out or do you want a go getter and have someone who grabbed the bull by the horns, did what they needed to in order to get it done?

we're all adults...make these kind of decisions for yourself....don't let a stranger tell you what's best for you.

It does not matter how much money my nurse spent to obtain her degree. What matters above all else is common sense, mastery of skills, and safe nursing practice.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the nurse who purchased used books and materials, just as long as (s)he has mastered the material, passed the NCLEX, and knows how to safely care for patients. Therefore, your comment is rather nonsensical. By the way, many "go-getters" purchase used materials.

I don't think there's very many Nursing courses online which are approved by every state. There is an online CNA program which California does not recognize or accept. I'll have to be honest, I've always been a little skeptical of the online LVN to BSN program's I've seen advertised.

Thank you for responding Commuter. I wanted to post but was not sure how.

The Indiana State University LVN-BSN program requires general education courses just like every other degree at ISU in Terre Haute. They also require specific nursing classes.

The general education requirements can be filled with CLEP and DSST exam. These exams have been taken by students all over the country for many years. You can get excellent study material for these exams for pennies online or free at you local library.

I have taken over 60cr of CLEP, Dantes/DSST and ECE exams (and gotten High passes) with discount material.

ISU directs students to the College Network because it is one-stop shopping.

I am not knocking the College Network. If that is what you prefer to use, then go for it. I just want folks to know they don't have to use expensive material to reach their goals. The program is accessable to folks with smaller wallets to.
