For the love of God- is this even right?!

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

So I am in my first class at Indiana Wesleyan. Nursing Informatics.

Our first lessons?

NOUNS AND VERBS.

I kid you not.

Is this even right?! I feel as if I am stuck in a remedial class with the slow kids. I am just absolutely furious about this. I was expecting a Baccalaureate level school not a middle school learning environment.

Oh no my friend! :( that sounds like elementry school not even middle school! That's craziness. Try to think of it in a positive way. Like you will get a good grade in this and help with your GPA. Good luck to you! :)

Specializes in Private Practice- wellness center.

I am willing to bet a large amount of money that they cover nouns and verbs due to the fact that so many people lack writing skills. I took some online classes and my jaw would DROP at what my classmates would post for their class assignments. Horrible does NOT begin to cut it. There are too many people out there who seem to sincerely believe that texting shortcuts are okay to use in a formal setting. :-O

Specializes in Infectious Disease, Neuro, Research.
Syllabus states that it is to cover nursing technology. Mentions nothing about remedial English basics or APA 101.

It's accredited. It's Indiana Wesleyan for crying out loud.

My email back from my professor? Went on and on about the CCNE accreditation and then suggested that if I wasn't happy to find another program. Hardly a professional attitude if you ask me....

http://www.aacn.nche.edu/accreditation/ You can call them and ask if this is grievable. Wasting your tuition is not part of accreditation standards, and is...misrepresentation.

Having said that, if this is a first-week deal, then you jump into operating systems, theory behind pass-access, etc., I wouldn't get lathered up over it.

Specializes in GI, Outpatient Surgery.

I completely get that!! I was going to apply to a lpn to rn program in a community college and there was 3 exams to take and pass. The first two were NOTHING but making sure you knew how to spell correctly and have/ use correct grammar. I thought it was UNBELIEVABLE!! Despite passing the two, i felt i had wasted my time and didnt even go back for the third. It felt like an insult. Thats when i decided to go with excelsior. I think a lot of schools are now going to this.

WOW. Imagine if there were ever a problem you needed help with!!

Ok, update.

Here we are week three and it's "Ask the Librarian how to use the dewey decimal system."

And we are learning how to use the spell check in Word this week! How exciting!

I have never been more insulted.

This has NOTHING to do with nursing informatics.

I have definitely picked the wrong program.

I am going to find out today what I need to do to withdraw from this program that is clearly not for me.

Specializes in Telemetry.

My best friend goes to Penn State's BSN program and her nursing informatics course was just as easy as yours. Nursing informatics is not rocket science no matter what school you take it at. I would take the easy A and not worry about it, you'll have plenty of hard classes to worry about.
