excelcior students purchase your books? The microbiology I was able to find in an earlier edition. the nursing health safty has 4-5 required books..I breifly browsed requirments for other classes and it seems you need so many books for just 1 class..and this is from someone who actually enjoys reading assignments :D I like to use multicolors of highlighters :D

But my concern is the cost of all of the books. I am paying for this out of pocket and I cant afford 4-5 books for one class..

Everyone is different.

For me I used Cliff Review Microbiology, about $10 and practice exam. The practice exam both gives you a feel for the question format, content, tester's intent, and explanations to why the answers are correct or incorrect.

Good luck,

Ive been reading alot of feedback about excelcior and plan on doing the practice exams..Im going to start with microbiology first since my transcripts havnt been recieved yet...thank you for your response :)

I obtained the majority of mine from the library for free, or the $1 fee for an interlibrary loan. Others, I already had from the nursing program that I was enrolled in prior to EC. I also found them in the bookstores of the local nursing programs.

I just grad from nursing school august 2nd, so I have all of my books from the program and do not intend to resell them. Did you find them helpful for excelsior, or did you find that some extra 'RN' type content was lacking?

My particular med/surg and peds/maternity books seem quite comprehensive.

Yes, if a person has texts from a previous program, I don't see the need to buy anything else. I would only be concerned with buying the EC recommended texts if someone really wants to own a set of texts for their personal library and the EC texts are the ones they want.

I know you said that you enjoy the reading, but for the courses that I have taken so far, I have used study guide 101 and found those guides to be pretty detailed and sufficient. The practice tests are an absolute. complete. must.

Thank you for your replys..I just cant justify spending 80.00 on a nursing fundamentals book when I have my own. I went through the content and it seems pretty much the same. I did a lot of reading and research on excelcior and Im pretty pumped about it now. At first, I was not..My community college will not accept credits from the two colleges ive been to. That means I would have to re-take 8 classes altogether. I just cant imagine going through all of the science courses again. They have to make money too I guess.

I will definatly taking the practice exams..from what Ive gathered they are worth the 75.00

Also..for anyone who is planning on enrolling..they are changing the ciriculum (sp)...after october 1st they will require one or two math classes..

Hi,

Just wanted to tell u if u really want those texts u can get them in an earlier edition on ebay or amazon for dirt cheap! I got Brunner, the Peds txt and Pharm books on amazon all 1 edition earlier (having the same content at the newer editions) each for under $5!!!!! I paid more for shipping than i did for the total price of the books!

Ebay and Amazon are the best for finding books! Look for The College Network, Chancellor's or Rue. They're publishing companies. I've used info from all 3 and they're great. If you can get the ISBN for the book EC requires you can probably find it used for next to nothing.

The one thing I liked about Chancellors and College Network is they took all the material you needed for a subject and put it together so you don't have to dig through books looking up all that material (the newer RUE material does that now). Saves a TON of time. I always printed the study guide out and went along in my study book and marked off what was covered. Every once in a while you'd find an area you needed to do some extra research on.

Good luck in your studies!

I'm not necessarily recommending this, but I did not purchase the books for health safety or transitions. I made an A on health safety straight out of nursing school with minimal studying and a B on transitions with study guide 101 ( I only studied casually for about 2 weeks). For micro, I absolutely bought the book, because I did not have a base understanding, and I feel like you need that if you've never been exposed to the subject matter.
